I would love to join as soon as I am ready… but I guess am too much of a beginner yet.
JoJo is great an I love the anime.
This is like hearing your parents use the word “interwebs” unironically.
Edit: It’s スタンド. Stands.
The protagonist of each part(mostly) has first and last names that both start with Jo(thus “JoJo’s” Bizzarre Adventure)
Incidentally, it’s kind of funny that I happen to have a friend that has a name that’s super close to that of the part 1 protagonist… haven’t actually managed to convince him to check out jojo though
…
Damn kids have no respect anymore.
Well, I got 4/6 close enough.
Ah yes, - good ol’ Jogashikata Josuke.
Thus the “mostly”
Definitely something I would like to do, but it’s a bit of an expensive endeavor for me rn.
Both
I’d join! I’m still getting my way through the anime (I finished part 2 a week or two ago, still need to start part 3), but I wouldn’t mind part skipping for the sake of study. It would have to not start for a while though, I would need to get my hands on the books
Is this a JoJo reference?
I’ve never watched/read JoJo’s bizarre adventure, but I’d definitely join! It’s been on my list for too long. (I’ll try to study some grammar quickly xP)
All I know about it is that there’s a Pink Floyd song in the anime
I’ll definitely join if I can get my hands on the books! A couple friends have been encouraging me to get into JoJo, so now’s as good a time as any
I actually never finished the first part of this series despite having watched seasons 2-5 of the anime. It was hella boring for me, but I had to watch part 3 no matter what at that time. All I had to know is DIO and alls fine.
Maybe this to-be book club (hopefully) can finally educate me not to skip any JoJo scenes…
Here is a long monologue of the reasons you should not skip anything
okay, so it seems like a lot of people are interested in the JoJo book club, which is great! I’ve read that a few of you don’t feel you’re a high enough level to read this manga, that makes me sad keep studying! This was my first manga in japanese and it was so rewarding to finally grasp it! For those that are prepared to start reading but don’t have the books yet, when is a good date to start the club? Should I add a poll to the OP on this thread? Is everyone cool with buying the first 5 books of Phantom Blood and seeing how that goes?
This is what we start with ^
And here’s why I have no intentions to read through the whole series with WK. It’s damn long. I suppose if the first 5 Phantom Blood volume readings go well, we proceed to Battle Tendency, which consists of volumes 6-12. After that, Stardust Crusaders (my favorite part) is volumes 13-29. I reckon getting to 29 is a hell-no, and I know that Yostuba& is 14 volumes long and that book club seems fine with that duration, so we could get to volume 12 and quit it after that.
This is my first attempt at a book club on this forum, so if I’m missing anything important, let me know.
Aw man! I intend to get this kicked off earlier than March. Maybe you could join in in-between? Would love to have you on board.
That’s cool, how many of the volumes do you have? If you already have 1-5, then you got all you need to get started.
I hate to hear that. Although, keep in mind some sellers will sell the individual volumes for, like, $10-15 USD, which is ridiculous, and if you’re lucky you can find the books for BOOK-OFF prices. I was lucky to find volumes 1-20 for $50. Maybe you’ll find volumes 1-5 for a price that suits you. Don’t overpay for manga!!
Big mistake, but I hear that a lot. People think the Phantom Blood anime is boring. I can confidently say the manga, although showing the author’s old art style that sees exponential improvement through the series, is much better than the anime. The pacing is for sure better, and the anime cut out a lot of scenes. But for the other parts, the manga and anime are about equal in quality, in my opinion.
I have a collection version that has slightly more pages(300 something) per volume and has parts 1 and 2 in 7 volumes(3 for part 1, 4 for part 2), but I have the entirety of parts 1 and 2.
Yes, I think that would be a good idea! I’m kind of hyped - first time I’m participating in a book club c:
I’m primed for whenever, but that’s only because I’m off work until the 6th of January. Maybe start in the new year so that people have enough time to get ready?
I’ll probably starting digging through Rinkya for used sets of this series.
I’ve tried multiple boom clubs and always fall out, but despite the difficulty I expect this might be one I would actually stick with just because I love the series.
Due to JJBA being one of my favorite comicbook series of all time, I would love to participate in this bookclub. I propose that the club should start in January (or perhaps slightly later), as it may take a bit of time for everyone to aquire Japanese volumes.
