FTFY
wahoo
When I signed up I was split between this and N2 and thought this would probably be too much, but glad I bit the bullet and went for it.
I studied explicitly for the test for maybe 2-3 weeks to get used to the format again, but I went hardcore. Definitely not a sustainable pace
But feeling great about this
Barely passed N2 by 4 pointsā¦ definitely not my score goals, but honestly I thought I was gonna fail soā¦ not bad, I guess XD When I signed up to N2 I thought I could have plenty of time to study but that wasnāt the case. After all, studying at uni and working at the same time gave me little free time and I didnāt feel like studying more when I came home. I passed N2 but tbh I have to review everything again, but that āpassā gave me a boost of motivation to be back on track again
I was thinking sth more like this
(although beats me how to get people to fill it out yeah)
I failed the N4, but you know what? Iām surprisingly alright with that. I feel like I am in-between N4 and N3 level, but I havenāt studied specifically for the JLPT test so Iām happy with my results considering I didnāt do any Japanese practice at all for like a month prior
I will be aiming for the N3 this December as previously plannedā¦ just need to really work on my grammar
Hadnāt sat for a JLPT until I took N1 in Japan in July 2023 - to be honest I felt much more āN2ā at that point (which based on my score, not inaccurate lol). Pretty sure I only passed listening because I spent 2 weeks in Japan prior to taking the exam. Improved my score by 22 points 4 months later in Portland. Still not where I want to be but at least this time around was by a little more than the skin of my teeth
Not surprised to see my vocab and grammar grades flip - Iāve continued to study vocab regularly but Iām not really reading/watching/listening to anything dense enough to get the reps Iād need for the N1 grammarā¦ And I donāt know if I will anytime soon so itās kinda taking the backburner
After the n4 exam, I was not super confident, but I ended up passing with 94/180.
Not a very good result, but hey a pass is a pass. Not too bad after about 16 month of studying I guess.
Iām not very happy with the results because I struggled more than I thought on the reading/grammar/vocab part, mostly because of time and also not recognizing various words written without kanjis.
Still, i donāt want to practice for JLPT specifically, so N3 will have to wait a bit.
I passed N5
Iām so happy and greatful. Ironically I was worried about the listening score. Now my heart feels very full
Yay!!
Honestly, the JLPT stuff does provide good structure for your learning but once I stopped studying for the test I really felt like I made leaps and bounds just getting out there and reading/listening/watching Japanese content for fun. Iām sure having laid a good foundation with the JLPT study helped enable that, but probably not the most efficient/fun way to learn actual, usable, everyday Japanese.
Passed the N2!
I think taking the JLPT helped get me out of a bit of a study rut where I hadnāt shaken up my daily routine for over a year. I think it also improved my listening by leaps and bounds because I had never really done any dedicated listening practice before this, but I listened to podcasts, anime, audiobooks and youtube videos constantly for a few months leading up to the test.
This yearās push will be speaking. Iām convinced Iāve hit a limit where my Japanese will not improve appreciably without habitual dedicated conversational practice. Itāll be a harder habit to form than reading or flashcards which are so much easier to weave into a daily routine, so the plan will be to try to hit weekly quotas.
passed the n3 by a narrow margin (100/180)
honestly iāll take it considering i failed by a narrow margin in 2022ā¦ even in the past month or so since the test iāve been working a lot harder and studying much more than i did prior to the testā¦ so I look forward to improving even more in the future
Hah, same score for me! Except my worst was reading.
This is my 2nd try, and like last time, I simply ran out of time in the reading section. My reading speed is just not fast enough. This time I even tried to be as fast as possible and didnāt double check anything (last time I triple checked ), but I still ran out of time with 7 questions remaining. Last time it was 20
N2 passers, I donāt understand how you can read 50 A4 pages full of non-trivial Japanese text so quickly! Guess I need to do even more reading.
But hey, I got 8 points more than last time and Iām somewhat close to passing, so Iām not unhappy, silver linings.
Iāll probably try again in July
Thank you!
Honestly my best advice is just find some Japanese content you like and consume a looot of it
I expected to fail, but not by such a small margin. Thanks though!
I ran out of time on reading for the N2 too! I think we just have to boost our speeds by joining more book clubs or the like
Passed every section and didnāt get enough points to pass on the N1. Might do N2 in July. Letās try N1 again in December.
Passed the N2!! 119/180
After studying my butt off, and then taking a year break from focusing on Japanese, I went into the test pretty rusty and unsure of what would happen. I figured it would be a good test to see where I actually was and how much of what I had learned had truly stuck. Iām relieved, to say the least haha. Also, my husband bought me some konbini wine to celebrate. Worth it!!!
I might take N2 one more time to get a higher score before trying for N1.
