~ JLPT 2020 ~

My teacher is working with us for kanji recognition based on previous lessons starting from scratch, using a lot of quizlets, and some other reading material. I’m lucky I don’t have to come up with tactics on my own because I would panic! I’m also reading a bit of books I have around (mostly kid stuff, like the kokugo book a friend used in 4th grade)

I plan on sticking to WaniKani for the long run as well. Hopefully we clear N2 this year and N1 the next! :goal_net: :top:

Nope, we just went into lockdown v2 in my state and are now enforcing masks. You may be thinking of NZ.

No, but maybe for N1?

N1 can only be taken in Düsseldorf this year. Because of corona they decided to arrange N1 - N3 in düsseldorf (maximum 250 people) and N4 - N5 in stuttgart (maximum 300 people). But I don‘t know how the situation is for foreign people traveling to germany to take the test.

Yes, I am traveling there from Dresden. I requested the N4 forms, let’s see.
I first wanted to do the N5 this month - but it got cancelled. I then decided to aim for N4. I learnt Japanese at Uni for 2 years, finished the A2-B1 Marugoto book. I am now working through finishing Genki 2 I bought 1 year ago but didn’t work with it as Uni used Marugoto.
I will then start reviewing N5 and then start with the N4 prep books.

Well, this december will be my third take in the N5 XD so this time it will probably work out. I always failed in the grammar and listening parts. I noticed, that I miss lot‘s of vocabs without kanji, since I mainly only learned vocab through wanikani. Another big problem for me are the words written in kana, but I know the only with kanji. It‘s difficult for me to figure out which word it is, if it‘s only written in kana -.-

Ok, posting here to make it kinda official for me, I’m going to aim for N5 in December.
Never really learnt Japanese in a classroom setting (tried for 1 year but it was reaaaaally slow and I learnt nothing in the end :frowning: ) So I need to set some objectives for myself !

Aiming for lvl 10 on WK so I have all the kanjis needed and I ordered Genki 1 from the japanese amazon. It’s a bit hard to learn without a teacher, so I hope that the workbook will motivate me.

Now I just have to pray for the JLPT not being canceled in France.
Good luck for those who are still going to take the test

i’m finally aiming for N5 in december in vienna and hope of course nothing will get in the way … i’ve even signed up to the offered prep course (4x 1.5 hours) to commit to it as well. hope the 50€ will be worth it and also keep me at studying, cause i always tend to lose interest and focus after a few weeks or months without having a set goal.

apart from the course and until then my learning materials will consist of bunpro, wanikani and “japanese from zero” (books + youtube videos). my fundamental understanding is limited but quite solid, so even with moderate but steady effort N5 should be no big problem. i guess. i hope.

Just got notice that JLPT is being held here in December. I wouldn’t really have interest in doing it, if not for it being probably good to have some kind of certicifate in the case I want go work in Japan for a while.

Probably taking N2, as I’ve gone through most of the grammar already, so mostly have to review. Majority of the grammar I’ve learned through exposure though, so interesting to see what kind of nuances they test. Really only thing I’m worried about is reading speed (my focus atm); pretty confident in my listening.

The December test has now been cancelled in Sydney and Melbourne too. I’m not surprised but am disappointed I can’t try get that N2 certificate. The other Australian locations are still to be confirmed.

We don’t have any news for the ones in France, but I don’t think it will be updated until school restart in september so … wait and see.
But I’ll be really sad if they cancel it  I motivated a friend to start studying japanese with me, and our big aim is the jlpt5. Seems a bit silly but if they cancel it, I’m afraid we’ll lose some of our motivation.

Does anybody here know if you can take the JLPT in Vienna without booking a preparation course? I can only find JLPT preparation courses on the website of Wiener Volkshochschulen and not the exam itself (and the link on the official JLPT website with the overseas test sites only leads to the homepage of Wiener Volkshochschulen)

that’s what i wondered as well but couldn’t find anything. i booked the course though and will ask them there about the test itself, so i could give you an answer at least on october 5th

maybe it’s just not yet possible to register for the test alone at this point in time?

Sign up for the test usually open a bit later, so there might be information on that page later on. I saw the samevthing when I looked last week!

Oh yes, good thought. At least they state that they are running JLPT on Dec 6th at VHS Brigittenau (it’s at the bottom of the description of the prep class).
