JLPT 2019!

Stuttgart. :pretzel::beer: It’s the closest one to my place. I’m heading straight to the Chrsitmas Market there for a drink immediately afterwards.

I shouldn’t have applied. I just feel bad now, wasting money on something I’ll not pass.

I need at least 6 more months to get to the point where I feel even remotely close to passing N3. That someone should take over all my other work so I can focus on learning instead of all this other crap I have to do.

My advice at this point is, go to the test, don’t worry about passing or failing, and take it as a gauge for where you’re at. The money is already spent, might as well.

Yeah, that’s the plan.
I’m not going all out in an attempt to pass a test, just to pass a test.
I’ll even take it slower than usual. I feel burned out because of this study now, and that was never the intent.

So what I’ll do, is just do the daily reviews here, do some reviews on iknow (already paid for that service, might as well use it) and I’ll try to read through the grammar daily.
That’ll have to do for now. After the test is over, I’ll just reassess where I’m at and plan from there. In July I’ll not take any official tests, but I will probably do an online free N3/N2 test to see where I’m at. And again, plan from there.
If I go too fast, I’ll just stumble and fall.
Better to go a little slower and actually make some progress.

Am I supposed to have received my test voucher by now does anyone know? I’ve have the email confirmation but no sign of the registration number they said I would receive. Cheers!

I haven’t gotten mine yet either. I wouldn’t worry just yet.

I had to go pick it up in person, but that’s how we do things here. If you’re coming from out of town you can can pick it up on the day of the exam, but that’s the only exception. But yeah, the vouchers for Romania are ready and distributed. Not sure about other countries

In Japan they send them about one or two weeks before, usually.

I did that to pass N2 last time. Whenever I’m home there’s a lot of things I want to do and I tend to procrastinate.

On topic: I registered for N1 and haven’t reviewed anything but the latter half of N2 which I passed last July even though I didn’t finish all my books. I’ll just test the waters I guess.

Yeah it really is great. It works out perfectly because by the time my work ends it’s already pitch black out anyways, so it’s not like I’m wasting daylight.

The only problem is Wednesdays is our ā€œNo ꮋꄭā€ days so I can’t stay as late.

~~

In other news, I think I’m going to take the other practice test this weekend and we’ll see how much I’ve improved since September and gauge just how confident I should feel come test day, haha.

Exactly, and once you’ve gone out from your workplace your body will automatically go in a slow shutdown mode. It’s better to spend your remaining energy studying while you’re still at your peak.

Same here. Workplace regulations are being reformed in my company too.

Do you usually take your exam in Tokyo area? What level will you take this December?

Nope, I’m based in Kyoto and I’ll be taking N1.

I have no idea what N1 will be but I’ll still try my best!

I believe in all 46 of us! (Who selected N1 on the poll.)

I hear ya. Just did a mock N3 test. Did not go well. The test level seems WAY above the sentences on WaniKani, Bunpro (N3) and NHK easy. I’m basically accepting I will fail.

My mock N3 testing has not been going well either :') I don’t expect to pass, but hey, it’ll be an adventure! x’D

Thanks for reminding me to change my vore in the second poll. Probably not up to date anymore, that one!

Anyone going to San Francisco for JLPT December 1 from anywhere north (Marin County, Sonoma County), and would like to carpool?

And around two months later I take the other practice test and…
Total score: 64.5/104

Score Breakdown

Kanji: 5 /6 Again.

Vocab: 11 /19
3 points better than last time.

Grammar: 12 /20
Kanji, Vocab and Grammar, all together, took about 25 minutes this time. It seems like this version had more grammar points than the other version.

Reading: 9 /24
Reading took about an hour again. After everything, I had 40 minutes left over. Didn’t go back over any of my answers (again). However this time the reading felt so much harder, and it totally reflects in my score which is abysmal compared to last time. Ugh. I really need to work on reading more.

Listening: 28.5 /38
I got one part of the last question wrong, thus .5 (Again.) Way better this time around. Though to be honest I actually did it first so that might have affected it a lot…

This time I took it at work (after hours of course.) I was definitely in a better mood than last time but by the time the reading section rolled around I was tired, hungry, and irritable. I’ve been going through the Shin Kanzen Master Reading book and just finished a section where I got every question except for one wrong and it’s really been messing with me. Usually reading is one of my best areas but I’ve really been screwing up with it lately.

Honestly I don’t know how to feel. I know I don’t need to do spectacular to pass this test but it really takes a blow to my ego to get so many questions wrong.

I guess from today until the test, my focus needs to be grinding the vocabulary/reading as many news editorials/whatever as possible. And I can cool it with stressing out about listening, hah.

I actually had quite a similar experience to your scores when I did a mock test (although I’m taking the N2).

I really struggled with the reading. Partially because my brain was tired and partially because I was running out if time.
As a possible solution I was actually thinking of doing the exam backwards, aka reading first, then grammar, then vocab and kanji.
My thinking is that kanji and vocab I either know or I don’t and so doing it at the end won’t alter the result too much. Plus by doing it thsi way around it’ll give me all my brain strength to do the reading part.

I suppose there’s not much that can be done about the listening, but I always find by the time I get around to that my brain is basically mush.
