JLPT 2019!

We taking bets on the results day again? I’m going with the 22nd.

I go with the 21st. just to say something different XD

I also go with the 21st (because I think it might be the correct date )

Reasoning

Reasoning: In Dec 2018, JLPT was on Dec 2nd, and the results were out on Wed Jan 23th.
In Dec 2019, JLPT was on Dec 1st, which might speak for the results being out on Wed Jan 22th (as lopicake predicts).
BUT: Last summer we saw a shift from Wed to Tues, i.e. the results were released one day earlier. And maybe we are seeing the same shift for the winter JLPT as well…

Is there a JLPT 2020 discussion thread yet? I’ve started studying for the N3 in December 2020 after passing the N4 in December 2018.

I hope someone starts a new thread for 2020. I’m also studying for the N3 this year. What are you using besides wanikani to prepare for it?

I did it.

I’m basically more or less done with WaniKani, so I’ll be using Bunpro and Memrise in terms of apps.
For books, I’m polishing off the last chunk of Genki II and just purchased Tobira and the Intermediate Japanese Grammar dictionary.
My main JLPT specific books I’m working through are TRY! N3 and 500問 because they really helped me for N4, but I’ll also use Kanzen Master N3 for exercises.

What about yourself? Is this your first JLPT?

I have TRY! N3 but I haven’t started on it yet. I’m thinking of working through it when I finish AIAIJ first. How’s 500 問? If you think it’s really useful, I’ll probably get it. This is my first time taking the JLPT so I would really appreciate any tips from anyone who has taken it.

In the listening section… take notes
Especially mark each answer with a symbol as soon as you hear it. I usually go with XO?, where X means not the right answer, O means probably the right answer, and ? means maybe the right answer. It’s amazing how quickly the answers get jumbled in your mind if you don’t take notes.

Thanks for the tips! I think listening is my weakest skill so I’ll have to put a lot of effort into that.

If you don’t want to put a lot of effort into it you could passively listen to native podcasts. Listening is my strongest subject and that’s all I ever did

That’s sounds really great! where can I find Japanese podcasts?

The show ended last year, but I’d highly recommend the backlog of Hiikibiiki

Thank you for the recommendation.

Thank you very much. I’ll check it out.

No great news, they uploaded a special last month!

Can’t mark any answers when you don’t understand anything be said. :upside_down_face:

That’s how I felt for half the N3 listening questions at least.

About that…

You may want to look at it again.

What’s the topic of the podcast?

It’s just two people having a conversation about the random things that they like (ひいき・贔屓 meaning to favor something.) It ranges from Starbucks to the Final Fantasy series to Mr. Donuts to Parks, etc. They also have a routine special episodes where they ask the fans to write in about their favorites on a certain topic, such as beer or romance movies.

It’s a very laid back podcast. They have what’s like elevator music playing in the background throughout the entire thing. It’s something I put on when I don’t really want to focus. Really good listening practice for natural/casual conversation!
