How did you get your exam results so quickly? Is that normal in Austria?
Here in the UK, students wait months to get their A-Level exam results.

I don’t if they were doing in-school exams now, but I’m decently sure that they were doing homeschooling (if that still applies)

(As for personal experience, in Sweden we get our national exams back within 1-2, max 3 weeks usually)

That’s because I’m in homeschooling, and my exams go a bit differently. I have exams on two days, normally Monday and Thursday, but because Monday was a national holiday this time, it was on Tuesday and Thursday instead. On the first day, I have the written part, and on the second day, I have the verbal exams. I get my grades right after the verbal exam for a subject. For example, if I just finished Chemistry, I get my grade pretty much immediately, except if I had an inbetween grade, in which case it can take a bit longer, but you’ll still know your grade relatively fast (typically a few minutes at most).

As they say, “Follow the safety rules – and you’ll finish Chemistry. Don’t follow the safety rules – and the Chemistry will finish you!”
Work safely, everyone! :shield:

@NeoArcturus (and anyone else who wants to chip in) Thinking of challenging myself to study Japanese consistently between now and October. I don’t have loads of time, but wanted to know if you have any tips and locations for good immersion content. Also, tools for speeding up sentence mining and the like.

Remember I’m a Linux only kind of guy so no Windows/Mac tools

You probably already know this one, but

Goals? For reading, probably Yomitan plus; Mokuro for manga; text hookers for visual novels; web novels, probably only Yomitan.

Yomitan is the updated version of Yomichan. 10ten might be easier to set up. Migaku is another option.

Visual novels may also help with listening. Otherwise, you might find voice acting on YouTube with some manga. Stories from 福娘童話集 -世界と日本の童話・昔話集- (selectable with Yomitan) is an honorable mention.

The important point being immersive experience, so that you can get enough amount. Long stories might be more fun than short articles like news.

@polv already gave pretty good advice, and I definitely encourage everyone who comes across this post to at least install Yomitan (hello, lurkers ) There is one thing I could add, though:

For sentence mining, I was pretty happy with iKnow, but I don’t know if the free coupons are still valid… if they are, here is a link to them, but you should keep in mind that it is far from being immersion.

What’s your current level? What are you comfortable reading/listening to?

I’m not super experienced with immersion, but from what I have done I am OK with stuff like NHK easy news except my main problem I feel is vocabulary. Listening is a similar story. Basic stuff is OK, but there is a vocabulary problem.

Thanks everyone for advice.

Also, just finished clearing out the 300-400 review pile. Back to lessons!

This is why Yomitan is extremely helpful

Nice job, congrats!

Are you on the moeway link? If so I would just get jitendex or whatever if you’re a beginner
