Japanese lessons

Hey everyone!

I work for an online language teaching company that mainly teaches English but we recently added Japanese lessons to the platform. And I got permission to give away 100 coupons for 2 free 25-minute Japanese lessons (worth about 32 USD).

Here’s the coupon code: WaniKani

To redeem the code you need to:

  • create an account at engoo.com (ignore that all the marketing is just about learning English)

  • click the profile icon in the top left and then click “My Page”

  • Add the coupon code as a “promotion code” in the account settings tab

  • Click “Update Account Profile”

Then to book a lesson go to the tutors tab and select “Japanese” as your study language and click “Search” to see the tutors you can book.

The coupons are valid for a month (until the end of March) or until they’re all claimed!

Japanese lessons with tutors is a new service for us, but we’re the same company that makes the iKnow! vocabulary study app, which for anyone who doesn’t know teaches Japanese vocabulary using quizzes. It has courses that cover the 6000 most common words in Japanese and has native-speaker audio and example sentences.

So, I also got permission to give away up to 500 one-year subscriptions to iKnow! (which normally cost around 60 USD). The coupon code is engoo-wanikani, but if you follow the link it should already be applied: 新規登録 - iKnow!

I hope this helps someone!

I haven’t heard of iKnow! before, but it definitely looks interesting! I’ll try it out

I recommend it, it’s the origin of the Japanese 2K / 6K most common vocab lists / Anki decks, the one I linked in your study log earlier  it’s an awesome place to start with some guided vocab practice.

Sounds good to me! I already grabbed my one year coupon, so nothing’s holding me back anymore now

And now that you say it, I remember you mentioning iKnow!, but I guess I forgot it because the main focus was Anki there. Now I have the deck without having to set up Anki  (what a coincidence, if you think about it  You mentioned it and the same day, I get one year for free just like that)

Thank you! Getting Japanese tutoring is something I’ve been planning on doing for a while, but I keep putting it off because, well, I’m kind of shy and the thought makes me very nervous… I know at first it’s gonna be a disaster yet I keep convincing myself that a couple more months of self study will change that. It won’t… I really need to just take the plunge and this is the perfect opportunity to do that!

As for iknow!, I’ve been using that for over two years now and with my membership set to expire in just a couple months, the free yearly sub is much appreciated! Cheers

I got placed in Advanced on iKnow! :sunglasses:

Let’s see what it’s like.

thank you! I just tried iKnow and could not take the placement test on my iPad because the sound does not work. I tested other sites and the sound works well there. Disabling all addons made no difference. Since I can’t use the site, is there a way to return my free subscription so someone else can have it?

The placement just tells you which deck you would be better off using, based on how many words you know in the test.

You can just skip it and use the site.

There’s an iOS app as well, it worked fine for me in the past. Did you try using the app on your iPad?

thank you! I tested doing lessons on the website and couldn’t get the sound working, but the sound on the app works great .

I use the app, and I am pleased with it. It’s fine if you can cope with some level of mystery (I still don’t know how to use it properly)
