So was she Japanese? I’ve always been curious about what is the elderly Japanese woman impression of the typical over the top elderly Japanese woman drama voice. It’s so grating to me and I can’t imagine anyone really talking like that irl.

They talk like that irl, absolutely. I heard that quite a bunch 
I told one of my Japanese language partners about this scene and my neighbour’s reaction, and he also agreed that women talk like that in situations like these (i.e. very expressly demonstrating positivity and good intent towards each other). It’s very grating to me as well
