Is a dead body an animate object?

Should you use いる or ある for a corpse?

Not the most astute answer, I know, but according to this, it would be ある:

Capture

But I’d wait for someone more knowledgeable to confirm

死体 would use ある。

Also, just to double-down on my first comment, because, why not? Doing a Google search in Japanese, it looks like they all use ある:

Capture

Read this page. But a very short summary: Talking about corpses you’d use ある but talking more about dead people, you’d use いる

ピーナッツアレルギーで死んだ人がいました is the more preferred way to say this.
