How exactly do you know which one is a transitive verb or not? I saw the ending can variate between tsu, ri, ru so it is a little bit hard to say.
This article discusses some of the patterns for telling apart transitive/intransitive pairs. (It’s close to the end of the article.) But to summarize, there are some patterns, but they are not always followed, so for at least some pairs you just have to memorize which is which.
