I went with a Fuecoco on my English playthrough but I think for this character, a sprigatito is most fitting (if you know you know)
Nothing like playing Japanese pokemon to make you realise how much vocabulary you lack compared to Actual Children though … WW
The only issue is that my switch isn’t set up for typing in Japanese so my character’s name is written in romaji which looks kinda weird and stands out compared to everything else
How is the situation kanji-wise? I briefly played the start of the original Pokemon on GameBoy and it’s 100% kana without a single kanji (as is often the case for games from that time).
There’s more kanji than I expected, its not 100% hiragana, I’m kind of glad because its easier for me to read (pretty much all of it has tiny furigana though)
There’s a lot of katakana
Like, all the hair colour options were like ブラック、ブラウン、レッド、ブルー
And most of the hairstyle names were katakana too, I was delighted to find out the bowl cut was called the ‘mushroom cut’ in Japanese
And Uva Academy (grape in Spanish) is just グレープアカデミー www
This sounds good for someone with an intermediate level in Japanese! I didn’t know they had furigana, but it makes sense in the modern games. In past generations (DS- and 3DS-era), you used to pick whether to play with kanji. I know that was the case in X/Y. There was an extra question at the start of the game where you could pick either “kanji” or “kana”; if you chose the latter, everything would written with only kana, as in
Welcome!! I love playing Pokemon in japanese, it’s like the most fun way to practice I can imagine (as a big, like concerningly big, pokemon fan). Been working my way through PLA and Heartgold (but got distracted by Harvest Moon for a while recently…) and would love to eventually play through 'em all! For the mainline games I’ve been JPN-only since SwSh lol. It’s really fun!! keep at it!!
