Idiom Question

#1

Was reading a visual novel and read 「噂をすればお隣さんじゃない?」. This comes right as the main character is thinking about his new neighbor and his mom says that. I know “噂をすれば” means something like “If you tell a rumor” or “If you gossip”, but could it also be an equivalent for the idiom “Speak of the Devil”, so “Speak of the Devil, isn’t it you neighbor”? Maybe I’m overthinking this.
