I am very slow in level 22 i think i spent 3 months studying this lesson. So long period for me compared with the previous lessons. I finally memorized the kanji in this level and i hope to pass this level soon. Are the following levels the same? as I feel very stupid now and i can hardly memorize the kanji.
I remember finding some levels a lot harder than others for no obvious reason. Sometimes the kanji click instantly, sometimes I still struggle with them years later.
Overall I didn’t find that the levels became harder as I progressed, if anything generally the more kanji you know the easier it is to learn new ones.
I know how frustrating it is to feel you’re not progressing as smoothly as you think you should be. Are you able to pinpoint what felt different about this level compared to the previous ones?
It can depend on a lot of things. Sometimes irl stuff affects us more than we realise, or we unlock kanji that look similar to old ones and keep mixing them up, or any number of things.
Which levels end up easier or harder will vary person to person. 22 was one of my faster levels, maybe you’ll find 24 super easy when you get here, it’s hard to know for sure.
Ah, the Wisteria level with 3 ways to say “boundary”, that was a tough one for me too . Congrats for levelling up!
I also struggled with the early 20s, but this was also the time I was pushing myself to read during the Spring read every day challenge. Not only did I get bonus refreshers from seeing kanjis in the wild, which definitely helped with reviews, but reading native material also made me realise how broad some of the kanji meanings were. Broader than the strict WK definitions in many cases. That was a real eye opener.
Previous posters have made great points, I would add that regular reading helped me with WK lessons and reviews very much (plus it’s fun!).
Best of luck with your studies.
thank you for letting me know your opinion.
Yes it is very difficult to recall any of these kanjis. In the other levels i usually stuck with 3 or 4 but here i am stuck with all.
wow thank you very much i did not know there is a wanikani statistics. Thank you very much for sharing this,

Thanks to @RebBlue for posting the link to wkstats.
There’s also a thread where people share their level-up charts:
Hey, me too!
Just keep trucking and we’ll be out of here someday.
Thank you very much
Don’t feel stupid. I have been on my current level for almost a year!
Thank you very much for sharing this. How did you do in the following levels? Did they take more than 1 month?
Motivation is key, and people are different. If you know what drives you, you’ll have a better chance at figuring out the right course of action to keep going.
It took me a long time to do level 22, and now I’ve been in level 23 for weeks and weeks, barely doing the repetitions. Seems to be a good place to slump for a while…
Don’t feel stupid, some parts of language just take more time than others. There are just some times where you gotta do more reps. Trust the process, you’re not stupid.
