Haha honestly I just find the whole story hilarious.
^Â You are a better man than I, then.Â
IÂ applaud your collectedness and level headed responses here.Â
Hereâs hoping there will be a port for mac in the near future (or my coding skills improve enough to port it myself and charge a million dollars per copy. A day. )Â

To all the stupid people out there..I did not mean to suggest 3 hours of work was some big feat that was in any way better than the countless hours that went into the project but the thing is.. given any random person on the street.. they cannot code what my boyfriend did and if that was valuable to the original person that made the project he was going to have to pay for it bc it was work that he didn't do. Plain and simple.I don't think you can ask money for any adjustment your boyfriend made to this program, because it's not ' his' program. he doesn't own the rights to it and neither do you, you... do realize this, right? ps. don't call people stupid here, it's not polite, we're trying to keep this a safe environment. try to be considerate at all times.
The fact of the matter is.. the program is more valuable now for a general use case .. it better reflects Anki while retaining it's uniqueness from it. Just because you poured countless hours into it doesn't make it great or worth it on it's own.
Since you can't read the atmosphere I'll lay this out flat: stop asking for money even in exchange for time here
As for the bolded, no. You didn't change the program, it already had the feature you needed.

The point is that Doublevil spent a huge amount of time on the application itself, offering it to the community for free, always helping out and eager to develop new features when there's time.
If you want to support the application - fine. Do some donation, make a pull request, but don't come up and slap some quick-implemented feature in his face and say "here, my boyfriend did that. If you're interested to extend your OPEN SOURCE PROJECT, we could talk about a price."
No matter your intention, no matter how you wanted to say it - it is just plain rude and, bluntly speaking, nothing more than a dick move. I really hope you did this offer on your own volition and were not told by your boyfriend to do that - because that would make him a developer of questionable standards with no respect for other people's products.

I have this problem where often times houhou just refuses to start up. I will click it countless times and it just doesn't react. is this a common problem? how do I fix it?This one gets me every time. I have a few reports of situations like that, but they all eventually disappear, either by rebooting or just... waiting, as it seems.
I'd advise trying to find and kill the Houhou process with the task manager, and then trying to restart it.
All my cards and progress were still there though, which I can't figure out!
Anki has also remained free on Android as a show of good will, it originally being open source itself.
EskimoJo said...Eh really? Did just uninstalling/reinstalling not work for you? Come to think of it, maybe deleting the "C:\ProgramData\Houhou SRS" directory can solve some issues too.Doublevil said...This one gets me every time. And by the way, your SRS items are stored in a file called SrsDatabase.sqlite, that you can find in your Houhou user directory, which by default is located in your documents folder.
Really nice application, I downloaded it yesterday and already liked it more than any other SRS program out there, because you have to actually write the stuff down instead of just viewing the answer. The only thing about that awesome app that I dont really like (its perfectly fine and usable) is that the desing is a bit, ehm I dont want to say ugly because it really isnt, lets just say its not that pleasing to look at. Just wanted to point it out, I will still use the programm no matter how it looks, just wanted to give some (subjective) feedback .
Otherwise, please keep up the awesome work, really enjoying it so far =)

I'm not a fan of the design I made either, but I'm trying to improve that as much as I can! :)

I might be being a little too serious and unable to read into the joking mood, but if she had done it, âwhat I implementedâ would be the natural choice. âwhat I had implementedâ meaning anything other than âwhat I had someone implement for meâ in this situation would actually be wrong.
That said, Iâll just take the chance to follow suit and thank Doublevil for the wonderful program. It has done wonders for my studying and will continue being invaluable from now on and well into the future. Thank you for your work.
Doublevil said...You wish! I am just bad at English grammar.. I meant the implied "what someone had implemented for me". I wish I was a programmer. I would make cool educational stuff and make a living off it bc I would not give it away for free.BreadstickNinja said...Plot twist!forgottenmems said... He says it didn't take him long.. I beg to differ as it look like 3 hours and we could have used that time back lol .I lost it. Haha that's the funniest thing I've read in awhile. I expected as much when I saw 10 new pages to this usually slow thread. Definitely worth the read 10/10. Are there any plans for a sequel?
Seriously though, this is all some kind of skit right? If it's not I can't imagine why forgottenmems is being so hostile towards Double...seems weird to me.
Anyway, back on topic, I get the stalling issue sometimes too. When I right or left click on the HouHou icon in the task-bar it will stall for a few seconds before opening HouHou/the right-click menu. It has only completely frozen a few times and I think that was because I clicked while it was hanging. I've never ever had to restart my computer to get it to work. If it freezes just close out and open the program again. Typically though, it's just a few seconds inconvenience. Probably not worth looking into too much.

The goal was to have the feature I want. Accomplished. I would rather it be in the official release because it wasn't just something I wanted but is a fairly common use case as it's already included in Anki as a noteworthy feature. The side point is if he wants to pay my boyfriend for that work fine if not oh well. He can always implement it himself, but paying for already done work could be considered time saving (and unless you know exactly what my boyfriend modified you cannot say it was nothing).
Look, if you want to keep digging a deeper hole for yourself then go ahead and take your shovel to the backyard and dig. But canât we please drop this now? Itâs been going for like five pages, and itâs getting really tiring.
I donât have a boyfriend, can I still use HouHou?
Doublevil said...No. I had to use another programme to find all HouHou's files and delete them. It had actually been ages since HH has worked for me, but I was feeling lazy so it was the perfect excuse!EskimoJo said...Eh really? Did just uninstalling/reinstalling not work for you? Anyway, these last few pages has made my appreciation of you and your work explode. I am very grateful.
Forgottenmems just go to houhou-srs.com and hit the âDonateâ button. Then enter a negative number on the next screen. That way youâll be sure that Doublevil pays you the money he owes you for the software he developed and gave to you for free.
