Maybe naming it “big shell” might have made it easier to get it confused with the already visually similar “shellfish” 貝 kanji?

I appreciate all the responses. However, Geoduck is still effing stupid. Lol.
Thinking about it, Wanikani doesn’t teach 彦 as a Radical, but I have imagination for this one.
