Onward:
The Pixel Remaster uses the spelling 魔道師 everywhere but my IME only proposes 魔導師 or 魔道士 (apparently both significantly more common spellings) and so every time I have to respell it manually. Life is hard.
Doesn’t your IME remember what you type and suggest it next time? Mine does (and I don’t always like it)
That works if I scroll deep in the suggestions and pick something, next time it’ll be towards the top.
But here it’s not suggested at all, so I type 魔導師 and then erase the 導 and replace with 道, and the IME doesn’t learn anything.
I’m sure there’s a way to add new words, and I’m sure I don’t know it.
At least on Windows, right click the IME icon in the system tray and pick Add Word.
Ah yeah I see what you mean, didn’t think about that. Would be nice to add words instead then.
I love how we can build anything but are too lazy to look up how can something can be done.
Assuming you’re using mozc, you can add new words through the settings (I’m using KDE Plasma as my DE so I’m just using the standard system settings application for that):
I also use Arch btw and my fcitx5-mozc-ut does suggest 魔道師 straight away, although not as the first choice until you pick it once. Once you pick it once it defaults to that until you pick something else.
I think the UT variant has a much better built-in dictionary, worth the change if you’re not using it already.
Yay, from the command like I could invoke the tool with:
/usr/lib/mozc/mozc_tool --mode=dictionary_tool
Thanks!
My setup won’t show it:
I don’t know if I messed something up in my config. It works pretty well usually.
Try pressing shift + left once to match only the first two characters to 魔道 first? Then once that’s dialed in, with shift + right you should be able to pick between 師 and 士.
Cool to know that there’s a separate utility to add words too – I’ve just assembled words not found in the UT dictionary kanji by kanji so far.
Nope, doesn’t work either.
At any rate being able to set up custom synonyms is good to know. I can spell 魔晄 easily now!
So wholesome to see the community jump in and help, well done guys!
I just realized that this was the issue, I wasn’t familiar with the “ut” variant, which includes community-contributed dictionaries:
I use stock Mozc, which doesn’t have those. That’s probably why you had 魔道師 and I did not. I’ll see if I want to switch, it’s the first time I’m having an issue with the default tables.
I use stock too, never really noticed much of an issue, and don’t want to risk needing to re-tweak my settings
I did briefly investigate whether you could just add the entries as a dictionary, but it seems like that’s not possible - mozc has to be built with ut in order to use it
