Do older Kanji show up in later levels?

For example during Level 1 you might perhaps see 人 and then of course later on level up to level 2,3,4 so on and so forth, will I ever see this Kanji again during later levels (specifically this kanji, not just another one that is derivative of it) to refresh my memory? As I would with Anki as an example, where the reviews are fewer and farther between once I have them pretty much down?

Sorry if this is a silly question, I’m very new to WaniKani, and also very new to studying a second language in general, forgive me if this has been asked 100 times before.

You mean, will those kanji show in words learned on much higher levels?
Yes, they will. For example, 依頼人(いらいにん) (Client) is a level 38 word.

I meant in isolation, for example just 人 on its own, since 三人 would be a different reading, but I suppose only seeing that one specific kanji on it’s own would perhaps only solidify a single use of it instead of its many possible uses

Well, there are several stages of learning items; iirc, the table looks as follows:

In other words, if you do reviews on time and won’t fail this item, you will have the last review for 人 in about 25 weeks. After that it gets burned and you won’t have it in reviews.

Sorry, maybe that’s not what you meant either

Ah fantastic thank you this is exactly what I was after! :slightly_smiling_face:

Will they come up with different meanings later on? No, absolutely not. Theoretically all possible meanings of a word could be learned at once, but in practice wanikani is a kanji learning site, not a word learning site. You’ll need to acquire the less common meanings by immersing.

Will they show up again while you’re on later levels? Absolutely. When you do a lesson on wanikani, you actually just start the memorization process on that item. From then it will come back in increasingly longer intervals, independent of your level. You could in theory stop doing all your lessons, never level up, but the items you’ve already “unshackled” will still come back until they are burned. Similarly you could rush through the levels and they would get mixed into your reviews later on.

Do you mean this?

Yes, WaniKani implements Spaced Repetition System (SRS), which is a technical term for it. Different websites and tools use different algorithm, but in general it is the same - you get to review the items you learned in longer and longer intervals, until you can claim you remember it permanently.
