Dathmach's Study Log

Those two used to give me a lot of troubles as well trunky_rolling
However, I am a cat, so it didn’t stop me.
You are a cat too so it won’t stop you either!
Remember: us – cats – are unstoppable! trunky_rolling

So, best of luck with your studies and other cativities! wricat

Cats are truly the only unstoppable force in the universe and there is no unmovable object (Except maybe katnip). I’ll eventually learn the spellings, if through trial and error if nothing else.

Have you ever seen a cat:

Got my Wanikani done for the day!

I also leveled up! Proof that I’m learning more Japanese. I wonder if it’s time that I start joining Japanese VRchat stuff.

Wanikani has been defeated for the day.

Bunch of new kanji with this level and they’re starting to get complicated. I’m definitely going to end up mixing various kanji up with each other.

Not entirely true; any object at rest can not be stopped!

Finished my Wanikani!

The biggest thing I learned today has to be がない. I already knew about じゃない but now I’ve learned there’s another similar saying that means nearly the same thing. Looks like I’ll have to think carefully about which one to use.

I’d say, じゃない = ではない = is not.
猫は犬じゃない – a cat is not a dog.
がない means doesn’t exist (for an object)
本がある → 本がない。

Wait wait wait, what’s ではない???

じゃない
じゃありません
ではない
ではありません

As I understand it, じゃ is more common in spoken language and では is more common in writing, but they are essentially the same thing.

I think the spider in that spider manga shouts one of them quite often. Which one was it?

I don’t remember, but probably じゃない
After all, she is talking mostly to herself, thus – spoken casual language, which means じゃない would be most appropriate there…

Tried looking it up but I couldn’t find a solid answer. That quick session of trying to find it though solidified that it’ll probably be one of the first light novels I try to read.

Got my Wanikani done!

New levels can always be a bit frustrating to start since they throw so many completely new words at you. I’ve noticed that later on you get more compound words, so it’s typically easier to remember them. Still, that frustration is just a sign that I’m learning ^^

Got my Wanikani done!

I’m putting a time limit on how long I’m waiting before I start doing Japanese VR chat. I originally was just going to wait until I was no longer sick, but that’s been nearly 2 months now! So I’ll be doing the vr chat once next month comes around, unless I get better before then.

My Wanikani is done for the day!

So far the most significant thing that has happened today is that I got to have Gumbo for lunch. I don’t live in the south anymore, so it’s a rare treat.

Got my WaniKani finished!

Today I learned about 前, which I’ve been curious about since it’s popped up a lot in the book club. As well as some general translation practice.

My Wanikani is done!

Only learned two new things today, 長 and 知る which means that 私は日本語を知る (I’m not sure if that has the right grammar or not)

Don’t really have too much to say today, although I am nervous about the Japanese vr chat.
