Got my WaniKani done!

Later today I’ll have the book club. I’ve even decided to go ahead and do the vr chat early. I’m terrified, but I know that it’ll be very good for my Japanese so I’ll have to do it.

…Nevermind on the vr chat. It seems that my system has run into some problems. Hopefully easily fixable ones, but I may need to replace some stuff.

Got my Wanikani done

As for VR, turns out I’m going to have to replace my lighthouse. I wanted to do the Steam version, but it’s currently out of stock and who knows when it’ll get back in stock. So I got the more expensive Vive. There shouldn’t be too many differences, so hopefully things will go smoothly once I get it.

I can already tell that 国 is going to be an issue. I have no clue how I’ll be able to tell if I need to put こく or ごく in a compound word other than getting it wrong many times.

On another note, I’ve begun reading Japanese the Manga way on Trunkslayer’s reccomendation, took awhile to get it though. I’ve been watching CureDoll as well, which will hopefully help with grammar.

Sorry, maybe I missed it, but am I correct to understand you want to do Japanese VR chat with actual VR?

Iirc, there’s also a desktop version, though of course, VR experience is better.
I’ve tried VR chat several times on my Oculus Quest 2 – it is very fun.
Haven’t tried the Japanese one yet though trunky_rolling

Anyway, best of luck with your studies, VR chatting and other cativities! wricat

Yes, I want to use actual VR! I’m sure the desktop version works just fine, but I prefer to do the full thing! I imagine that it’ll probably be about as effective as anything else that has you talking to people in Japanese :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you for the luck!

Update: I got the VR equipment that I had to replace today. Which was unexpected as I was told it wouldn’t be here until Friday. Guess that means I’ll be trying to today.

I’ve found a community for Japanese and English learning, it seems that they have events and classes in place. I’m too late to sign up for any of the classes, but I can join the events at least. They happen on Friday and Sunday, so that’ll be when I do VRChat for now.

It’s generally KOKU.

Exceptions are TENGOKU and CHŪGOKU, where the real 孫悟空(そんごくう) is from.

I tend to have a problem with over-Rendaku’ing too.

Thanks for the tips with 国, I’m pretty sure the only reason I got so many of them correct was because of them.

I have separate mnemonics for koku (coca cola) and goku (From Dragon Ball Z). Since they are completely different images, they don’t clash for me.

I’m also remembering when to rendaku through Goku. For today’s lessons, I learned about 活用, which I came across in the wild on an instructional video.

Today is the first japanese-english learning event I’ll be attending and as always when doing something new, I’m scared. Hopefully I’ll be able to get through without much trouble.

I leveled up! I’m now level 7 that much closer to level 60. The japanese vr chat went about how I was expect, with me lost anytime someone spoke Japanese. Maybe if they spoke very slowly and only used words I knew I would understand, but even then I doubt it. I’m currently just hearing the sounds of the words and not the words themselves lol

Finished my Wanikaini!

正月 is going to trip me up, I know it. I’m going to be on and off forgetting it for a month I’m sure.

Imagine you get this wrong every time. You just get it right once a year- when it’s the new year.

It’s earlier than usual, but I’m finding that I get more time in the morning for the moment. Also I did get 正月 correct due to kitsune’s comment lol

Some of the new words I got today seem like they’re going to be a pain. Definitely going to get them wrong for awhile before I learn them.

I’m having troubles telling 未 and 末 apart. They’re really so similar and it’s hard to remember which one has the longer line on top.
