Bruh! It sure was quite easy to figure out ハイオク when passing by a gas station but after reading レディス (redies/ readies?) and レディーズ (rediez/ readiez!!!) on a signboard, my loathing for katakana deepened. I couldn’t figure it out

@Elizabella I think my favorite katakana word (that I learned when I read Tokyo Ghoul) is アジト.
If that makes no sense in English, that’s because it apparently comes from Russian 
. Means “hideout”.

that’s “spasibo”, “спасибо”. though, the last vowel is a weak one, so it can be heard as “a”.
strictly speaking, アジト is derived from “agitating point” (referring to russian, it should be “агитпункт”, and loaning its pronounciation, it should have been アギト).

I always internalized the meaning that Shi is death in Japanese, so the face that’s lying on it’s back looking up is the one most likely to be dead, and the other one is tsu, looking forward like a shih-tzu because as the myth goes “Dogs can’t look up.”

There is a silly mnemonic for シ ツ ソ ノ ン
There were two puppy dogs: Shi シ female puppy looking right (stroke left bottom to right) and Tsu ツ male puppy looking left (stroke right top to left).
Tsu asked Shi: “So (ソ) would you like to go on a date?” Tsu is sort of doing a wink here.
To which Shi replied: “No (ノ)” Tsu closes his eyes in dispair.
To cheer Tsu up, Shi winks at him and says: “…But N(ン)ever say N(ン)ever!”

I reached level 60 and I was still somehow mixing katakana once in a while 
What solved it was when I started learning katakana words. After a few days, it fixed it.
