I was wondering if any of you is considering to buy the new crayon shin chan game on the switch. It seems to be using rather easy japanese and i feel like it might be a good first japanese game to get into and use my aquired knowledge. What do you think?
I’m interested but it’s also a little pricy. Maybe I can find some let’s play vids after it’s out.
I’d be interested! But I am not sure I could play it on my Switch…? Are games typically region-locked?
Not anymore. I believe. I have bought ロックマンエクス legacy collection physical edition from japan without any problems.
I’m gonna quote this from a quick google search:
NINTENDO SWITCH GAME CARDS ARE NOT REGION LOCKED.
ALTHOUGH NINTENDO SWITCH SOFTWARE SOLD IN REGIONS OUTSIDE OF THE AMERICAS WILL WORK WITH NINTENDO SWITCH SYSTEMS SOLD IN THE AMERICAS, WE HAVE NOT TESTED ALL OVERSEAS SOFTWARE WITH SYSTEMS FROM ALL REGIONS AND CANNOT GUARANTEE FULL SERVICE AND SUPPORT. THEREFORE, WE RECOMMEND THAT PLAYERS PURCHASE SOFTWARE THAT IS SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR THEIR NINTENDO SWITCH SYSTEM’S REGION.
See this link for more information.
Anyway @RichiBan , I am interested! I loved Shin Chan back in the days!
I love Shin Chan but, for what it is, the price seems absurd. It’s like buying Ghost of Tsushima but without the uhmm… gameplay or uhmm, you know, graphics?
I feel that way about Nintendo prices a lot of the time
This is true. I only shop during sales now. The only game I’ve bought full price which I have made adequate use of is Splatoon 2. So. Bloody. Worth. It. I’m still at it while waiting for Splatoon 3 to come out.
Also, they need real Pokemon games like back in the day and a proper Professor Layton one too.
Edit: I think they should make a Pokemon Moonshine Edition. Kind of like the old school games with nicer graphics but where the protagonist cannot walk in a straight line, speaks a different language from everyone else, and every once in a while barfs on someone. Also, the whole screen shakes at irregular intervals like when you had pokemon that had been poisoned back in the old games.
This! Splatoon 2 is awesome, one of the only games I regularly play on switch.
I only found out yesterday about the game and wanted to buy it immediately. But then I‘m not sure how long it will motivate me. If I can read the text without referring to a dictionary a lot I might buy it these days.
From what I understand, you can download games from any country’s Game Store, but making the payment may be a problem if you don’t have a payment method registered in that country. I haven’t been able to buy Japan-exclusive games using my Bank of Gaikoku debit card, but I have been able to download Japanese demos and freeware.
I think you may be able to bypass this using a PayPal account, but I haven’t tried it yet.
However, there are many games that you can buy in your local Game Store and then play in Japanese by changing the language settings, either in-game or in your system settings.
I also had a Japanese premium account trial for a few weeks, which allowed me to play a bunch of retro games in Japanese, which was pretty neat.
I’ve been considering it since I’ve been playing the 僕のなつやすみ games recently. However, with the cost being as high as it is, I’ll likely wait for a sale.
I’ve found the easiest way to purchase games from another region’s store is just create an account in that region (there are tons of guides for this) and then buy e-shop cards/codes for that particular region.
