Correct use of Genki for a WaniKani user

Hello everybody I have a question.

If I am using WaniKani (and therefore if I, sooner or later, reach level 60, i will have learned 90% of the N1 JLPT), should i just skip the vocabulary parts of the Genki textbooks when possible or should I also try to learn the vocabulary that is presented?

This is a genuine question I really don’t know what is best for my “japanese learning” journey…

I recommend learning the vocabulary. You need it for the lessons to make sense. Plus, there is a lot of kana only vocabulary that you won’t learn on wanikani at all.
If the vocab does come up in wanikani it is just a nice bonus  .
If you already learned the vocab in Wanikani, you don’t have to put any effort into learning it again with Genki.

That’s what I would do.

You might have learned 90% of the JLPT kanji by L60, but you very likely won’t have learned 90% of the vocab. WK tilts its vocab choices towards “help with remembering the kanji”, and the JLPT tests are more interested in “do you know the words learners at that level should know”.

Ok I see the point and can confirm I didn’t think about this. Thank you for your time.

I don’t know if this is a unique idea but I will take a photo or screenshot of the page and ask chatGPT to write me a story that uses the vocab. Sometimes I will ask for a certain style (e.g., write me a story that incorporates this page of vocabulary riding the train written in the style of Banana Yoshimoto) .

Yes, agreed that the Genki vocab is useful to study. There are JPDB decks for Genki 1 and Genki 2 as well:
