Comma-like signs next to some words

Hi all!

I recently started reading

a book in Japanese and I have noticed that there are comma-like symbols next to some words, but I have no idea what they are for. In the photo attached, they are to right of とりあえず.

Does anyone one what they are?

Thanks in advance!

They are emphasizing the word, like italics does in English.

Punctuated. For. Emphasis. :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s basically how I hear it in my head.

Thank you, guys!

JFYI, a native speaker told me that these marks (which are called 傍点 [ぼうてん]) are also used when lots of kana are used in a row, to indicate where a certain word begins and ends.

Cheers!
