Meaning of bolded commas in book, in the same place furigana is written

Has anyone ever come across this in their Japanese reading travels? Are the commas for emphasis? Or some kind of misprint? I’ve come across them maybe 4 times in 40 pages, just in this one book though.

I think this question was asked before and the consensus was that they’re used for emphasis. :slight_smile:
