Not much to say other than that I’m really proud of myself that I made it this far. I’m generally not great with consistency, but WaniKani has been a daily habit since I started almost 2 years ago. There were time periods where I slowed down on lessons, but I still did my reviews every damn day. This experience has really made me wonder what other skills I can slowly gain over time without overdoing it.
WaniKani’s change to interleave kanji and vocabulary brought me back from the closest I was to burning out. Another way I avoided burnout was to set my daily lessons to 15 and never let myself do more and often let myself do less.
Anyway, thanks for reading and celebrating with me!
Great work on getting there in such a short period! Seeing your level-up graph, I thought it was mine haha. I had the same thing happen at levels 16, 17 and 18. I wonder if that’s a common point people burn out.
Thanks! And do you mean 26/27/28? For me, that was a bit incidental, I actually went to Japan during that time so even though I was on top of my reviews I slacked hard on new vocab. And then it took me a long time to get back into a good rhythm until WaniKani implemented the interleaving changes
Yeah sorry, I meant 26/27/28. And i meant 26/27/28 for me too haha. Not sure why I said 16, 17, 18
Ah for me it definitely wasn’t incidental. Something just felt really off during that time. Felt like I was getting a lot wrong, lost motivation. Slowed down a lot. Only did reviews and no new lessons.
If you were in Japan, you’ve got a great reason to take a break and enjoy your trip
Cake! I plan to continue my reviews, while also continuing my daily Anki reviews (for core 6k), but mostly I’m hoping to reclaim some time back for non-Japanese things I’m trying to learn. That being said, the main things I enjoy doing Japanese-wise is watching a “let’s play” of Persona 5 Royal in Japanese (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7K3hmM2RiY&list=PLCV7e9PcgFJXJkDLQUGMXvHBLDamFrYd0), and trying to read NHK Web News (non-easy version). I should be doing more speaking and listening practice, but I’m not as into it… so we’ll see how much that happens ;p
Congratulations!
I’m proud of you too and great job staying so consistent and disciplined!
It’s also great hearing you wonder about what other skills you could develop next!
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!
