Am I mistaken or has the forum become much more quiet since New Years Eve? Are you guys mostly lurking (like me) or have you quit?

I haven’t posted anything since 2017. My forum account has been hijacked by Nicolas Cage.

My thought is maybe people made a resolution to not get distracted by the forums as much…

Does it count if I’m here but not all there?

basically what my professors say in online lessons…“if you can’t hear me, please write in the chat”

I was actually semi-referencing the original pokemon, but I’m not suprised noone noticed…
I couldn’t find a decent gif/image, so here’s a youtube of someone recording the moment on their phone:

Of all the things to stick in my head for a decade or two, this is one of them. Make of that what you will.

Yes.
Asking for the English meaning of a language you are trying to learn is counter to actually acquiring a language.

That’s why it’s imperative to get rid of English definitions and grammatical structure and switch to target language definitions and grammar asap. At level 28 you should already know enough Kanji and vocab to be quite proficient in the use of a jp-en dictionary and be able to start using a Japanese to Japanese dictionary anyway.

Not to mention most people in these threads are just chatting with each other in English (i.e. NOT their target language).

tl;dr less time people spend on a forum and more time reading the better.

I think the creator of WK, Jared, knows this perfectly well as well since he keeps mentioning this in his emails and podcasts. Quite sure this is also why he refuses to add new vocab or kanji to WK, and why WK has a roughly 6 month burn/suspension/retirement interval. They want people to leave and actually use the kanji and vocab the site teaches you.

Probably because all the 三日坊主 disappeared

I’ve always been a lurker for the most part, though around New Years Eve I did actually post here and there. I suppose that’s just a coincidence? I only really talk when I got something I feel like sharing, which admittedly isn’t that often :no_mouth:

I like this word.

Right?? I wish we had something similar in English.

That being said, we all paid a lot of money to be here, so there’s no way my cheap ass is letting that go to waste.

Agree, it was more active at the end of 2019 when I joined. Myself, I’m posting much less and reading less due to personal matters (extra work load).

Welcome to WaniKani, where all your friends start disappearing after level 3 until you’re left with the rest of us crusty lifers.

I mostly lurk. I do WK reviews and lessons daily, so I’m definitely still on board with my learning goals. I’m just focusing on the learning part, lol. I honestly love WK. Even if I never use what I’m learning in real life (though I hope I will), I think learning kanji and vocab is just fun.
