I’ve been working on this pair of shortcuts for the past few days. They work on all Apple devices that support Apple Intelligence without additional dependencies. I’ve only been using it for a few days, but have found it to be way easier and lower friction than just about any third-party dictionary app. Especially on macOS, where you can bind it to a global shortcut.
- Ingest Japanese - Takes selected, shared, or clipboard text and can render it with Furigana, tokenize the words and provide readings with clear word boundaries, build context-aware dictionary entries, and save items to a word list in iCloud Drive
- Ingest Image - Share a photo or screenshot, or—if triggered otherwise—it will trigger a screenshot, and then analyze the primary text and secondary context and pass it to Ingest Japanese
