Hello, I’m struggling with frequent mistyping on my phone. If I mistype one word, I just live with it — but if there are more mistakes, I usually reload the page.
However, during big review sessions, I end up reloading 10+ times. Each reload causes me to lose some partially completed reviews, and I have to type them all over again. It feels like a waste of time — I’m fighting WaniKani instead of actually making progress.
This thread shows I’m not the only one annoyed by this What ruined Wanikani for me -_-
I know there are user scripts to help with this, but as a mobile user, installing diff browser and setup scripts is a bit too difficult for me.
My suggestion:
Add a “3 lives per day” system for reviews, similar to many other language learning apps.
If I mistype, I could spend one life to try again. Once the 3 lives are gone, I’d have to be extra careful — which actually reinforces focus and accuracy.
For nearly-burned items, maybe we could prevent the use of lives — or better yet, if a life is used to burn an item, it stays at Enlightened for another 4 months. That would also serve as an indicator of “almost burned” items, which I’d really love.
it’s cute people still think wk is going to add any kind of undo or feature that will help… search the threads…they don’t give a rats fart!
if you are doing reviews on your phone there are 3rd party apps (yeah wk can’t even write their own app either)…but those apps are FREE and allow you to click undo w/o having to reload a page
looks like you are already lifetime so sunk cost…but there are other tools/ways to learn the kanji w/o dealing with all the wk madness…renshuu is free, anki, marumori, kitsun… a LOT of ways to study w/o dealing with all the stupid limitations wk puts in place
or just wait 19 days for the newest feature implementation … only 18 left to go…
Why aren’t you using one of the third party apps if you are reviwing on a phone. For iphone you have tsurukame and for android smouldring durtles where you can get several userscript functions in app including ignore.
Wow, thank you for advice. smouldring durtles looks good for now. When I was actively using WK it wasn’t yet created, and there wasn’t another solid app for WK. So situation changed in recent years, cool!
Well WK does add features, platform is not abandoned or dead. Maybe this time)
I can understand why they are unlikely to add features to reduce your time on the app, reduce amount of reviews, not a good strategy financially I think. But 3 errors per day not so drastic of a change and relatively easy to implement.
Do not worry about my lifetime. This is my 5th year here, and I am not even lvl 30) Not hurrying anywhere)
api features removed when? wk summary page removed when ? and promised to return new features apr/may 2023…sure…not abandoned…it’s 2025 isn’t it? … not all dead but mostly dead
Don’t forget that they added Lesson Picker last year and this year they’ve improved “typo detection” and are working on the mnemonic images. Sure you can bury your head in the sand but you could also try to acknowledge that the dev team doesn’t share your vision for the platform.
sure sure blame the user LOL
I’ve done my time … thank goodness for kitsun!!! and renshuu!!! and the other platforms that actively listen and implement user feedback
haha yes im the only one that has ever asked for a leach manger
undo button
summary page
api to be put back …sure sure im the only user
what was that textbook thing again that was also promised… eto eto… sure sure
when promises are finally backed up by actual results…then i’ll believe…
until then the actions speak louder than anything that is promised to be happening
All those things are already available in scripts and 3rd party apps, though. I think there’s a lot to be said for WK keeping the casual experience focused and limited, while allowing easy customization via scripts. It really seems like the best of all worlds
Strange, I don’t recall specifying “you (singular)”… But since you (singular) need that specified:
I get you (singular)'re annoyed that the changes aren’t the ones you (plural) want them to be, but there’s no need to be bitter when people (not you (singular)) point out there are changes that do exist.
