I couldn’t find the appropriate category to post this, so I may as well just make a study log and start it off by going:
I just did 102 vocab lessons because I’m pretty confident in vocab at this point. I didn’t intend to bombard myself in this fashion, but we’ll see how it goes?
I did 39 reviews when I woke up (Level 6 radicals + starting kanji), and if we account for those vocab items hitting A2 and being due again at 4pm today, I’m due to complete 291 reviews today. That’d be my 2nd highest review count in a day, the most being 327 when I restarted Wanikani a few weeks ago.
Today I increased my study streak to 21日. I am currently Level 6, I now have 46日 studying on Wanikani (I signed up in Jan 2025 but I much prefer this metric, since it ignores the two extended periods when I dropped it)
I’m pretty happy with my accuracy so far. Maybe it’s because I’m still in the lowest levels, but all of my random/passive Japanese knowledge is really carrying me so far, especially with vocabulary. I’m very deep into Vocaloid (and Project Diva/Sekai) so there are a lot of words I know because they appear in songs. Like in my crazy lesson batch today: 走る is in the song はしる!とおく!とどく!(by Usushioshisuu), the verb 広がる appears in that song’s chorus. 足りない appears in FUN!! by DECO*27 (both of these songs were written for the Project Sekai unit, More More Jump!). The examples are kind of endless, I could go on for awhile.
I also used to do English covers of Vocaloid songs, which gave me a lot of experience and exposure to different words, expressions, etc. I have years of passive experience and knowledge that Wanikani is helping to solidify.

Lastly, because I can only afford a monthly subscription, I’m trying to keep this breakneck pace up. I completed Level 5 yesterday, in 8.3 days. My goal is to finish before December 14th, 2027 for the thread 🌌 Artemis III: Back to the moon! - level 60 in autumn 2027
Personally, I want to keep a pace of 9-10 days per level. This is what Wanilog projects my level dates would be at my ambitious 9 days per level.
This feels like a bit of a stretch, though. Even if the average fell to 10 days per level, I would still hit Level 60 on December 6th, 2027.
But is that do-able? I feel like it is. It took 45 study days to complete Level 5, which is an average of 9 days. In my first 18 day streak in October 2025, I finished Level 3 in 7.8 days. In this current streak, I did Level 5 from start to finish in 8.3 days.
The only thing I think that would stop me is if I burn out along the way. And that’s very possible, since it happened during my initial push in October 2025, where I burned out after 18 days. However, I was also trying to do Bunpro and other supplemental learning at the same time, and ended up overwhelming myself. For now, at least until level 10-15, I’m only going to do Wanikani. I won’t let myself get over-excited and burn out again. Once I’m further in, maybe I’ll add another SRS like Bunpro, since I did like my free trial of it. But I need to handle Wanikani first. It’s been the most effective learning tool that I’ve found so far, since I respond well to game-ification.
That ended up being a lot, but I’ll post back every so often, mostly to keep track of my wkstats numbers ![]()
