nevermind it took me until 9pm to understand what that remark refered to when i looked over the steam achievement guide for the SF route and I was like “huh???” xddd

that sounds really fun :eyes:
did you have the spec, or did you reverse engineer the format?

i remember before the nintendo gigaleak when the documents from the sdk were really scarce and we as 12-year old kids would reverse-engineer their graphics formats, NCLR, NCER, NCGR, NSCR, I hope Google doesn’t index it because i can see a 12-year old kid in 2030 landing on this page hoping to get the spec for DS graphics files xddd

in Dolphin Emulator (wii/gamecube), savestates work great except for the fact that they always keep the state of memory of when you edited something, and there was no way to step BACK the savestate, so each time you’d make a change to something earlier than a savestate was, all of the data would be wrong after that, aaaa xdd

that’s one part of modding I really really don’t miss, rip to so many different savestates xddd

i know what you’re saying and I can’t wait for myself to retire and have time to do those things (absolutely has the time to do those things) (the hundred line: last defense academy joined the chat)

sometimes I have NO IDEA what a word means in English xddd

which is where yomitan comes to rescue and i just hover over a word and

i have a feeling that consigning and entrusting are two slightly different concepts, but I’m just rolling with entrust = consign in my head :slightly_smiling_face:

speaking of, there is a piece of clothing called a tutu:

and up until really really recently I didn’t know what “tutu” meant, but there are two jokes in Deltarune Chapter 4 that touch on tutu, and the first time I arrived at it I was like “hmm so this is a tutu”, and then the second time “am I missing out on something?”, and then watching streamers reaction to the playthrough and all of them laughing their asses off at the tutu jokes and I’m like “WAIT HOW COME I’VE NEVER EVER HEARD THAT WORD BEFORE”

so tutu joined my vocabulary earlier in the month xddd

we’re about to die here in Berlin, send reinforcements ^^

Life

I was legitimately hoping today was a day for rotting in bed and it worked really well in the first part, Last Defense Academy, Squid Game, I was perfectly not physically active and physically not-

so i burned 3000kcal today again :sob:

Friend invited me to go bouldering, so even though I was holding myself with my arms and legs to not leave the house, I slapped my cheeks and went bouldering and it was really fun ^^

My favorite green bouldering course got taken down, the inevitable truth of bouldering gyms, it too shall flee xdd

in its place, a new blue difficulty (a fair bit more difficult) one got set up, and I realized I’m not that far away from being able to climb it, so I decided to make it a project for today’s climb

it’s the yellow one in this picture.
There is a final step at the very end, the yellow rock on the big black rock that you need to place your left feet on in order to propel yourself and grab the top rock, that prevents me from conquering this one

But because me and my friend were today at 6pm, only tryhards were at this hall and each time I was falling down, a person would just come to the wall and do the track first try :sob: :sob: :sob:

Something something don’t compare yourself to others, but still, AAAA xdd

My friend likes climbing blues, so he also did this one, but he told me where to put my body weight and the project is still up for the next time ^^

I’ve never done a blue before, but the bouldering gym that we have is divided into four halls, sorted by the length of the tracks/difficulty levels, and I DID MY FIRST BLUE TODAY (in the first hall at a relatively short track) BUT STILL :DDDDD

i need to finish this blue track project the next time I’m bouldering, sigh ;___;

But yeah, a lot of protein, tasty tasty, was a pretty fun sunday regardless ^^

Squid Game Season 3: mehh, as I kept on watching I kept on thinking back to Last Defense Academy and I couldn’t focus on the story, it’s really drawn out and the pacing is really meh

Last Defense Academy: SURPRISINGLY GREAT, I really like the second ending I’m currently doing right now because Takumi Sumino is a really well written, competent character that does and says rational things and the game doesn’t hold player’s hand explaining everything, they give you the benefit of the doubt that you might have figured things by yourself without overexplaining things ^^

Also, Masafumi Takada is on :fire: with this soundtrack, it’s soOOOoOO good, this one is Katamari-like ^^

I’m really curious how is the game like for people that didn’t play Zero Escape or Danganronpa, because I can already smell some plot twists from a mile away, but they might not be so obvious if someone is not so familiar with Monokuma from Danganronpa or Phi/Luna from Virtue’s Last Reward ^^

I never thought that the way how to make Danganronpa better is to set it inside of game multiverse and make all things possible to happen just happen in different timelines, but the Virtue’s Last Reward gameplay for this game just feels right and if not for the teeeeerrible, TEEEEEEERRIBLE time commitment, I’d be drooling over it the whole time xdd

Well, I’ll drool over it a bit more tomorrow ^^

Japanese classes tomorrow, and no work tomorrow, I can sleep and sleep and sleep and sleep and I intend on doing so ^^

See you tomorrow!

A mix of everything

There was some original assets analyzing as well as reading a lot of old posts in the modding forums where artists were creating assets following the standard but I couldn’t make the tools they used work on my distribution due to deprecated libs… What got me through in the end was being able to look at the code of one of these tool that had the right palette conversion operation and understand what I was doing wrong in my mapping/encoding script…
And this enabled me to created my own assets after too  like this

<making squeaky ツンデレ noises>

that yellow was blue, so probably categorized as v5, but i’m completely not familiar with the scale ;__; xdd

really fun to climb onto though! ^^
basically core body strength benchmark ^^

And that will be the part of today’s study log ;___; xdd

going through a little bit of a crisis of faith today, because I couldn’t open up my mouth without breaking Japanese at the classes today, it definitely is caused by the heat outside tiring me out, but I definitely did not feel like I put out my best Japanese today and I even when going through my usual review block, my head was somewhere completely different today

And then after the classes a guy was telling me about how to land a software engineering job in japan in german und ich hab fast alles verstanden, aber wenn es um eine echte antwort geht...............

haaaaa.

One really annoying part about SRSes where I am right now is that they mostly stopped teaching me useful skills and learning the actual language and now we’re learning very specific edge cases when my retention of the actually useful skills is dropping, and I know what the remedy to this is (consume native content), but my head is not there today and might not be there tomorrow and

Today I did have the moment of wailing in despair being like “i’ll never be good at german and japanese” (doesn’t have to be a cognitive distortion xdd) and it took me a bit to remember that it doesn’t matter because i’m not supposed to be good at those languages, i’m supposed to do click click on the keyboard and press enter and see green come out ^^

I wish, I so much wish for a hobby outside of English language that I could just not invoke English to keep propagating at all

But am I willing to put in effort to do this? Absolutely no xdd

Even German is doing much harder than I would want to in that regard :sob:

I’m not a woman of inaction, I’m a woman of too many wrong actions ^^

But back on topic, chant has a really lame mnemonic xdd

I’m halfway into level 40 today, so I did the final kanjis for the level ^^

In today’s Japanese classes, we spoke about 白川郷:

How the rooftops are slated and they can have a lot of snow on them, that was pretty interesting ^^

We also discussed rainforests and how the climate change is making it difficult for animals to make it there, but they’re apparently the cradle of life and the lungs of the world, so we’d better protect the rainforests ^^

We had a question of how can we protect the rainforests and make sure that they wouldn’t be cut so much, and the group was nervously looking over one another and going like “ehehehe” having realized that We Live In A Society, so if anyone has a hint, hmu, we settled at “use less paper”, which Germans could probably benefit from regardless xddd

Life!

Cycled a bunch around town today, and summerween is in the town already! I’d give the doggo a pat pat C:

Berlin definitely isn’t a city for the romantic people, so when I saw this sticker earlier today I was like “aww, so cute C:”

So now MAP FACTS
Berlin is less of an interconnected city and more of 16 small communities that each has a 15-minute city inside of it, and most have pretty clear starting and ending points, because they’re different from one another

There is a clear point where Berliners claim that the city ends, and that’s called a ring network around the city:

people from inside of the ring use the ring to determine where the civilization is located and where it ends, but I live just sliiiiightly outside of the ring, and let me tell you, civilization still exists there xddd

Though, take a few hundred meters north from me and it’s completely over, no city in sight, you’re off to the forests and lakes :eyes:

of course, cycle a bit further up and you’ll see another Kaufland and another school area mostly populated by German people who were pushed away from the stricter city center, but I use this building to determine the absolute end of my city xddd

It’s something like 1.5 kilometers to the north of Wedding S-Bahn station, and I just pretend the city doesn’t exist north of that one xddd

…so today I cycled to the north of it xdd
Roamed around for a bit, found it to be a wasteland with trees left and right and decided to quickly head back to the civilization :upside_down_face: :folded_hands:

Also tagging @mitrac to get a stroke attempting to read the Berlin dialect of German xddd

I’m in the same boat! By the time I’m done with reading my backlog, I’m sure I’ll be able to grab a Hundred Lines at a 90% discount on Steam

My backlog has now grown considerably since posting that thanks to steam sale… steins gate and umineko added to the owned pile as well. I think your backlog for VNs is still probably bigger than mine though
So maybe 2028! It must be 90% off by then, surely?

How is your novel backlog? I feel like you read a lot of them, every time I look at your log I see that you have finished something that I wanted to read too

hmm… just the 25 physical books I own which I haven’t read plus the 25 kindle books… that’s only half of my reading and the other half is library books from my list of 80 or so other ones to get to… it might take a while

My reading is like 90% novel 10% VN though so the novel backlog might actually get done quicker

I see some people get huge backlogs on stuff like bookwalker but good thing about having limited shelf space is it manages to just about stop me

Well… depends which VN, they are quite long  we were just saying the other day with @Daisoujou that Fata Morgana is maybe as long as 10 novels, while Hundred Lines is as long as 60 novels…

I might be some people :face_with_peeking_eye:

i’ve only started bouldering for the first time over the course of this study log just a few months ago xdd

But there is a post above where there’s a diagram of the difficulties of the bouldering gym that i go to:

at this point pinks are friends, greens are doable, blues are projects :sob: xddd

Nonono don’t fall for that one xddd

novels are much more space efficient than mangas, good use of the space ^^

I only started in April too!

And now I’m off injured :upside_down_face: I hope I don’t have to quit

The difficulty ranges in my gym are quite wide

So you can do like 90% of one colour and then the last one is just so much harder than the others

Wut! I’m illiterate compared to you folks

although this is a really cool skill to be having and i love reading me books and visual novels in english, this is not why we’re here for, so please feel free to sometimes flaunt your source material linguistic superiority in here so that i’d get motivated to pick something up in japanese finally ^^

Now that we’re on work holidays and I don’t have that many great plans on how to spend the time with a hEATWAVE LOOMING FROM THE SIDE, I allowed myself to be a bit more hermit mode, but as usual, no more zero days, so Japanese reviews had to be done ^^

Because of the lesser cognitive load today (no work), I did Japanese reviews over the course of 1h45m and didn’t even complain at how long the reviews were, though if I’m going to hang out with book club tomorrow, I probably can’t spend as long as I did today.

Highlight from today’s reviews was definitely this one xddd

Also, had a reeeeally long review block today and didn’t fail all that much:

though I did fail 「疲労」の「疲」for the n-th time, and 「裁判」の「裁」which are some real headscratchers, because I don’t have issue with the words, I do with the individual kanji :upside_down_face:

幸せの木 had a sad turn today and I was like nooo 勝  落ち着いてね  xdd

German

I bought a few books at the book festival last weekend and I decided to give the first one a shot, fully expecting for me to be held back because of my German ability, but no, I read at my regular thinking speed (not even the reading speed) and I didn’t need to look up anything to understand everything that was going on :eyes:

The source material of Lesbisch werden, on one hand is of a personal interest to me, on the other, it really feels like the author just went on YouTube and transcribed a few video essays into a book, so even though the language is not holding me back much, the concepts of “sisterhood” and “not bringing other women down” and “women being awesome” are not particularly huge revelations to me and as I closed the book, I was like “ehhh” and just moved on with the rest of the day. Might still read a bit more because language study, but I’m having a problem with getting myself to read books period, not just in German xdd

I’m more interested in the extra reading/watching materials from the end of the book that are in German, but I probably won’t commit to them regardless, it’s nice to know where to look ^^
I’ll discuss it on the book club tomorrow for as much as I’ll be able to read before then.

During the classes today we talked about gender gap and, surprise surprise, it’s much bigger in Westdeutschland than in Ostdeutschland, that used to be socialist:

Germany also has a significantly higher gender gap than average in the EU and much higher than in Poland, I’ve been lucky enough not to experience it much YET, but one point we discussed in the classes today is that the biggest gender gap is not between men and women, it’s between women having kids and everyone else:

And of course, queer women, lesbians, trans women, etc., are hit even further, so, woo, fun topic xddd

One person in the classes stood by the opinion that the gender gap is because a lot of people entered the job market in a completely different market environment 20-30 years ago and it’s completely different now, and the gender pay gap for 20-24 year old women according to the statistic we saw was only 6%, so there’s hoping.

But yeah, I signed up for delivering a presentation next Tuesday about horror movies without jumpscares, so hold me accountable for delivering that presentation ^^

Life

33 degrees today.

I only left my home today to do groceries, grab a coffee and go for German classes, I spent the rest of the day buried in my blanket at 22.8 degrees at home either playing my Switch, reading the new Hunger Games, reading how to be a lesbian, reading how to defend humanity from foreign commanders attacking our academy, wasn’t a very adventurous day today ^^

Still, when cycling to my language school, saw this ad for more summerween xdddddd

Memento mori if the nineth lion ate the sun… wait, wrong event ^^
I wonder what do they do in there

And also, I have a very hazy very brief memory of my mom feeding me books from this humanoid elephant when I was younger:

And funnily enough, this elephant has only two pages on Wikipedia, German and Polish xdddd

Benjamin Blümchen lifetime PTSD I’m telling you ^^

Also, Hundred Line Last Defense Academy spoilers 2/3 into ending 002:

Spoilers

kodaka had a really good read on the international politics in 2025, didn’t he? :upside_down_face:
the situation of committing genocide because it’s the best chance at survival of a specific group of people just stinks the middle eastern conflict so much and I think I’m team Eito on this one : I

Just like I was team Lao in Xenoblade X : I

Also, the reveal that it wasn’t Earth (I called it out a few posts ago! I know Uchikoshi like the back of my hand xddd) came in much earlier than expected, I’m legit curious what will be the next realizations :eyes:

Tomorrow, 37 DEGREES HOLY FRICK and at 7pm, when it gets a bit colder, going to the book club, hoping I don’t melt and I’ll revel in my cold Altbau preventing me from melting away ^^

See you tomorrow ^^

I am of the belief that all stems from the fact that no actual money changes hands for caregiving (of children and others). Once people have to pay someone else to look after their house, pets, children, parents–suddenly nobody can afford to live
It’s a hidden cost in society… It’s not a taxable transaction
Someone who only cares for another is not even considered “unemployed” traditionally… They’re not even “on the job market”… And yet I have to pay others over $6000 a month to look after father in law for what I was doing… --Actually much less than what I was doing, because I have him a LOT of “physical therapy” and “occupational therapy” which “they cannot afford to provide for him” in the care homes

Don’t get me started

It sounds like Denmark is closest to valuing that across the board, but I don’t know

Regarding former east vs west, another consideration is that in the former east my understanding is overall wages are and have been much lower. So if most of the super high earners are in the west, where gender gaps are proportionally much higher (think finance execs, that throws everything off), I wonder if that has much more to do with this than former political structures. In other words, to be comparable and really make a point, the graph needs to show we’re comparing similar positions.

:exploding_head:
And finally over
