I didn’t realise till I checked in the library yesterday that there’s 50 VOLUMES?? eek
When I get through the second half of Slam Dunk though, ちはやふる is basically the only other manga which the library has which I’m interested in (downsides of school library) so it might well be my next long-term manga project in a month or two
It’s so cool!! yrhm 百合姫20thアンソロジー | L21 has it too! And this month’s with the foliage is soooooo pretty
Hope you enjoy
The anime showed up on my radar recently… unfortunately its lost out to my desire to focus on Kansai stuff (it does have a character who speaks a different dialect tho). But I’ll probly get to it at some point this year. I really love the art style of the manga in that picture!
I checked Luna’s review of volume 2 and they mentioned that this volume made them look up a lot of things… I had a feeling my experience throughout volume 2 was a bit easier, maybe even easier than volume 1, I was able to binge the whole volume in two sittings, so pretty happy about that ^^
I really like it when they add German words in katakana to illustrate the points, ブルーメ・デア・リーベ, might be the name of the new arc: is ひめちゃん going to become the ブルーメ? We may never know, I only bought volume 2 and not after that xddd
Waiting for the aromantic beats to start kicking in ^^
I finished the magazine today, including some of the columns at the end, I mentioned above that they have a segment on 140-character yuri stories, they even managed to illustrate one of the stories, and yep, something something yearning, something something longing, me likey ^^
There is a fanclub of the magazine that you can sign up for, the fan tier is only ¥2000 a month (something like €0.07 going by tomorrows exchange rate ) and by participating in this fanclub, your name gets added at the end of the magazine, you get a physical copy of the magazine and some other freebies
so surprise surprise, the next issue (35) comes out two weeks into September, so I wouldn’t be eligible, but the physical copy of the magazine and a DRM-free PDF still applies
Because the magazine doesn’t ship overseas (booo)…
The delivery looks cheaper than the default service on Amazon, the catch is probably the delivery time, but if I were going for the fanclub of ガレット, I could probably go with them
My reading comprehension still leaves a bit to be desired, and there was a text prompt at the end of chapter 6 where there was a presumed mode of murder for the victim and I knew pretty well what the others in the case were thinking about the case, and I stayed and looked at the keyboard being like “what am I supposed to type”, I looked up an English walkthrough, the answer was suicide, so I immediately was like “AHHHH RIGHT, 自殺, I LITERALLY READ ABOUT IT TEN MINUTES AGO”, and typed it into the Switch keyboard xdd
Unfortunately, my IQ is only going down with age, spoilers for the life section xddd
Life
…I think a certain giant hedgehog might have crashed into my library in Wedding xddd
Anyway, Sabrina Carpenter’s new album, Man’s Best Friend came out and I was listening to it on a bike today as I cycled to Dussmann to find out if they have any Ado albums, but what I found…
HEY, THIS ALBUM IS EXPENSIVE
ALSO, THEY HAVE A LIVE LISTENING EVENT :DDDD
If you look at the filename of the second picture, 20250829_164549, you will see tHAT I ONLY FOUND ABOUT IT 14 MINUTES BEFORE THE EVENT WAS SET TO TAKE PLACE xdddd
I was something like 6 songs in at this point, so I took my headphones out aaaand…
Also, went to the book swap, the biggest book drama today was one book with crayons smudged all over it, but yeah, ended up getting nothing today, I have a bit too much stuff in Japanese to read for now (going extra fast at it! C:)
unfortunately, it’s not in the same warehouses as the other things, so even if i were to order it, it wouldn’t have come with the other things, and most likely wouldn’t have arrived before my sabbatical regardless, so that one will have to wait until, a time in the future
also, love the 935 yen book, 3074 yen delivery xdd
can’t wait to just go on a full-on retirement already, only 40 years to go
August 30th, 2025
187 reviews on WaniKani
18 lessons on WaniKani
38 reviews on Bunpro
3 stories on Satori Reader
Manga: ささやくように恋を唄う第11話
Striking a basic conversation with some Japanese moms (and their kids) in Japanese
Now is where all of the weird math shenanigans are going to come in with comparing different timezones to get promoted to the next level xddd
But yeah, I had a lot of tongue clicking on Bunpro today and ghost count went up again
On planet Satori Reader, さやか is still looking for her demon cat in the wilderness, she’s gotten some hints from a super suspicious boy though ^^
Life
I have unfortunately taken 167 photos today.
I like to often say that I have something like 50 adventures every single day but today I can name each one of those on a whim, so I’ll try to condense it and only speak about the things that really made me go like “wow, so cool!”
First, grill, was really nice! Our Japanese friend invited double digit amount of people from different walks of life, and the people ended up forming small circles around their comfort zones ^^
Of course, my comfort zone is the coolest people from the book swap, and one of them made her own homemade hummus that was really tasty and really nice to grab with different types of breads or cheeses ^^
When she was in America, she brought herself this bag that says FREEDOM FRICK YEAH, I love how they compare Trader Joe’s legend to George Washington’s one xddd
I ended up talking to some Japanese moms and their kids in Japanese, giving them candy and sweets and taking family instax pics of them, I was able to say a few sentences in Japanese and Japanese people were mOSTLY SURPRISED to see a white person speak Japanese, but what they didn’t know is that at the book swap blanket, three people could’ve done it, two people decided not to xddd
And this is where it gets downhill from now, so let me condense and give you some context for what happened xddd
I was going back and forth if I should go or not, because I’m about to be doing some really exhausting sightseeing aaaand I ended up staying until 2am in the city, having seen 10 museums and 12 exhibitions
Amazing xddd
I’ll structure this post by having a ranking from #10 to #1 of my favorite adventures I’ve experienced and a short description and then I’ll just wrap it up xddd
Buddhist Japanese sutra written in traditional Chinese characters!
It was a part of the guided tour I took on the Japanese buddhist practices in an Asian section of Humboldt Forum, probably one of the coolest museums today, she had furigana to help her out, booo xd
But also, I tried to read some and the speaker was surprised that I can read hiragana (at least) this quickly, and we both talked about some actual kanji and how they were used over the years, so that was a fun story!
A concert in the museum of instruments, composed of both modern and more traditional instruments! The band in there was experimenting with different people playing different things, definitely had the Lindsay Stirling vibe when I was listening to them ^^
Museum of Espionage! Berlin apparently is the spy city because of the huge influence of the region on the Cold War, and there were a few fun exhibits to play around, including codes that were only visible when looking at a lens of a specific color ^^
Futurium, another great museum, had democracy panels, where you could move in your wristband to answer in individual polls and there were questions about humanity, technology, future, and this one stuck out to me very personally and very strongly!
I’m taking the memory package on the off chance that somebody in 2040 at a random moment goes like “oh yeah, it was fun to read her study log”, and then thinks back to being here ^^
I definitely will think of yall though ^^
HARAMBE LIVES, his name is Bobby xddd
Naturkundemuseum, museum strongly about animal preservation ^^
That’s a gorilla from a Berlin zoo, but as soon as I saw him, I went like “HARAMBE” out loud and a few people turned around and smiled at me, so that was a certified Harambe moment ^^
A workshop to make your own bookmarks, and you could select any patterns and letters - from the Germany museum, the museum had stories throughout centuries all the way to the 2006 World Cup, I really enjoyed the whiplash of walking to a different room and suddenly it’s Weimar Republik xddd
I WAS JOKING WITH THE RING YESTERDAY
I CANT BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE ACTUALLY MAKE THAT JOKE A REALITY WTF xddd
please dont flood me with Sonic the Hedgehog lore xddd
Workshop to make your own cards, and bookmarks, at Akademie der Künste!
I really like how my one came along, and I’m definitely sticker-and-washi-tape-brained, it was a TON of fun C:
Ah yes, here lies the 6,20 € per square meter rent in Berlin xddd
Killed by AirBnB, and West Germany, and a lot of things in general, but I audibly smirked when I saw it in the Berlin exhibition at the Humboldt Forum xdd
Anonymous love letters from strangers at Futurium!
I adore them, love receiving things like this and my cheeks flushed when I got this one! Also, sent another one in the circulation, where I told people that I started a public diary and that people are overwhelmingly positive and I hope that they won’t forget that and that the life treats them nicely ^^
Ahhh, what a day to wrap up such a freaking incredible month xdd
So yeah, did you find any of the stories interesting? ^^
See you tomorrow either way!
I like the portable “briefcase grill”. I never saw that style before. Smart and tidy. I like the village blanket at the cool kids’ table.
Neat spy stuff… Fun friends… Good conversations… Great museums oh my!!
Your burn rate is very high. LoL
Yeah this book is special since it’s out of print, you have to organize a book order around this book, not the other way around and that’s why people in the club longer suggested we vote on the order for the next three and commit to them all, then essentially order 3 used and ship together with anything else from a proxy seller. I’ll try and make the home post today.
Cool about the vocab. My main thought looking at my review is “I first read this only a year ago?!”. Feels so much longer
Interesting on the 140 character thing… Also yearning and longing? I’m surprised that you wrote in your review that it seems like Galette is aimed at an older audience than Yurihime. I guess I’ll need to give it a closer look, one of these months
I did not know that the word “to capsize” did even exist in the first place xdd
Anyway, in order to understand the word, I typed it into Google, and an English-to-German translator showed as the first result and it made me have no idea what does either “capsize” OR “kentern” means
I bounced the word from my friend and they told me that it’s like when a boat topples over, and I was like “yeah that sounds great… why do we capsize the helicopter now” xdd
The Polish translation for the word is just “to flip over”, and the wiktionary article for “wywrócić” (that translation) does not translate the word to “capsize”, so you’ve just invented a new word there xddd
And ささやくように, I don’t understand why the rating on Natively is so low for this manga, it isn’t that easier than the other mangas I read, but it’s nice to see the characters back ^^
Life
Really low energy day today, I felt like the gravity around my sofa was really strong today
I did end up taking a bike ride to the main station though! And, oh no, that book is going to be responsible for so much damage in the society in the future xddd
Here’s the Spiegel I was writing about in Mitrac’s study log earlier today, some science-based research, a lot of interviews with people, seems like friends are very important to people wellbeing, I hope I do make my friends feel appreciated to the degree I appreciate them ^^
one of the most iconic queer bars in Prenzlauer Berg, Tipsy Bear, was going through some queerphobic attacks earlier in the year, and the organizers of this march wanted to convert the hatred into something more uplifting - just having people stand in unity with the queer people and the bar, and I think it worked pretty nicely ^^
TRICERATOPS VS T-REX WHO WILL WIN
(i will leave you with this exercise as homework, I’ve been to the dinosaur museum already, I know who wins xddd
NOT THE ONE THAT WINS IN THE REALITY THOUGH DDD:::::: )
Also, 果たして, aaaaAAA THIS MANGA PISSES ME OFF xddd
The only adept left
I’ve made it a ghost four times, it has so many different meanings that it just doesn’t stick, so I’m summoning the strategy again of “if you write it in the study log, it’s bound to stick” xdd
Life
I don’t really have a good reason not to announce some of my cooler adventures and being selective in terms of teasers for the next day, they could build up anticipation as I’m about to post xdd
So here’s the post: I went to a manga collage workshop today!
I’m really proud of mine, there’s even a small story there:
“You can wait longer here.”
“I can’t anymore…”
“I can’t… anymore…”
“What a shame!”
^^
The workshop took place on the complete opposite side of Berlin in Spandau, 20km cycling to the west to get there, 7km from the sign that says “WESTEND”, 5km from a sign that says “SPANDAU”, 2km from a sign that says “IKEA”
The workshop was pretty fun, my friend from the Trader Joe’s bag invited me to go together and we mindlessly did the workshop as we kept on yapping for hours xddd
Also, here are some of the materials we used and collages she made herself, she’s really good at those things ^^
And then cycling 20km back to get back to the city center, oh what joy xddd
We’re pre-emptively agreed to do Halloween together, as it turns out, too many people we both know aren’t into horrors and spooky stuff, not so easy to find a mutual soul
Also, she gave me a birthday card, here’s how her take at it looked like ^^
I also made her a scrapbooky card, but she just blew the competition away xddd
And yeah, my mom is at my place tomorrow, we are going to be doing some adventures around the city and at 7pm, we’re taking a train to Frankfurt, from which we will be flying on Wednesday, so that’s the calendar for the nearest future ^^
What should I title the Asia Adventuring Arc, should it be something like FURTHER FROM HOME? Or maybe just Asia Adventuring Arc? I’ll decide some other time xddd
Mokuro is becoming really useful all of the sudden xdd
When packing up for the trip today, I brought two books, one about the media literacy from New York, the 響け! book I’m still behind on, and my Switch OLED with all the Japanese games I’ve started and have never finished, I’ll see if I’ll have the interest
Worst case scenario, I’m in Tokyo on the 9th, so I’ll be able to buy a few more things
(I really want to find the yrhm 百合姫20thアンソロジー, but there’s a veeeery narrow chance I’ll be able to find it, I don’t even know where to look aside from Akihabara tbh
Also, I’ll see how I do reading books over the next couple of days, because I’m really tempted to join an actual novel book club, but I don’t read, so books might be a bit tough for now xdd
I updated the OP of this thread just slightly if any new people come over the course of the Asia Travel Arc, but it’s still not what I’d like to see in my OP, so excuse me as it’s a bit outdated for a bit longer ^^
I took my mom to my local libary, and would you guess what, they’re doing a photo competition right now! Which one of those pictures represents Berlin Wedding the most, and my biased vote for the best one xddd
We took it off to the main station, I packed everything that I remembered of, including my terrible low quality Casio camera that takes terrible pictures at night (on purpose, can’t wait for them to be blurry xddd)
Aaaand, on the train, just slightly, started learning Hangul, I only know a few characters, but the letslearnhangul.com course is really good in terms of making you write actual words rather than just the characters ^^
We arrived in Frankfurt, and what’s funny about this city is that there is a red light district right in front of the main train station, and one of those with junkies and naked people just out of the doors of the places
That’s not even the scariest part of Frankfurt though, the scariest one is all of the people stuck in the skyscrapers overnight to worship the God of Money, that if you were to do the same things in New York instead of Frankfurt, you’d earn three times as much money regardless
I’m really scared of tall office skyscrapers, especially at night, especially when there’s lights in the windows, behind every light is a person who didn’t manage to get back home that night
sooooo from tomorrow on it’s gonna be this every day, exposure therapy, woohoo xddd
Tomorrow we’re taking a plane from Frankfurt to Seoul… with a 18-hour long layover in Bangkok, between 6am and midnight, so we’ll get the whole day to explore! Assuming we will have energy and we manage to sleep on the plane and don’t feel like complete zombies with the jetlag
Tomorrow’s update will still be in the European timezone, but I’ll press the submit button at 6-7am Bangkok time? Or maybe a bit later? But no exciting photos from Bangkok yet, for this you’ll have to wait until the September 4th update, already in one of the Asian timezones ^^
Also, I am getting my mom into GAP: The Series, she really likes Sam (@prath) xddd
So see you tomorrow for a very short update and I hope everything turns out great! Let me know if you know anything cool to do in Bangkok!
Are you suggesting that you change your posting schedule to fit around your busy life rather than fitting it into my pre-work coffee drinking Bidoof ramble reading routine??
But what about if they’re Japanese tall office skyscrapers
I would offer to come say hi when you’re around, but seems like you’re only going to be here for a short time and with family, plus mid-week, so I guess it probably wouldn’t work
Just in case, I’m in between 8th (23:55) and 11th (22:00), and we have absolutely zero plans other than Shinjuku late at night one night and Shibuya late at night the other night, so if at any point in time you wanted to come, please send me a DM at Natively and I’d be so happy to see you in person! C:
Jpdb says top 1100 vocab by frequency for 覆う which sounds about right tbh
Although by frequency you see the “cover” meaning so much more that I only found out about the capsize one and 覆る very very recently
yeah I don’t think I can resist all 3 of them
I thought you were here for only like 1 day for some reason, in that case I’ll have a look and see, will send you a message at some point!
