Second listening from Quartet chapter 5 listening section

Listened to Sakura and Suzuki episodes 11 and 12. On episode 11, Suzuki was narrating and I had to slow it down to 0.9 because I had a hard time understanding what he was saying. But when Sakura narrated episode 12, I understood it pretty well without the need to slow down. I’m thinking it just has to do with the vocab though.
I also watched はじめてのおつかい Season 2 episode 1 on Netflix without subtitles and was unexpectedly moved and even got teary eyed. I only ever watched the episodes with just the kids going on the errands until now. This particular episode actually shows the kid as a grown up years later. I was so sad when they said the mom had died and she was only 47 at the time when Ken-chan was only in first year high school… God… I didn’t expect that at all… 
Today’s vid is general Japanese used when travelling, especially on the モノレール:
Despite there being built-in Japanese subs I had a harder time with this one, I understood the general gist of each sentence but had a harder time picking out some of the words.

To finally part ways with that otoge, I rushed through the third route I could play on it.
It’s a tragic story because it depicts the adventures of a group of japanese warriors (the Shisengumi) who defended the shogunate until the Meiji imperial restauration, so it didn’t end well for them. Also, in this game, all the protagonists except 2 turns into vampires, which trope I hate, so I decided I would only go through the routes without vampires. Fortunately, I had these 2 games for very cheap on steam so I don’t feel frustrated. The stories I read were really good though.

Really nice and cute series, perfect for my reading level, a little more challenging for my listening level.
EDIT : yesterday, I’ve begun to read Adabana Odd Tales along with the Visual Novel Book Club and I will keep on every day from now on until the true end.

No, it’s not deja vu. I rewatched episode 7 today and got more of it the second time, though I was still a bit too tired out from being sick to watch and focus on more. More of it made sense this time at least.

I should also start by making a note about how I’m tracking time: my time counter here is only based on the actual length of the things I’m watching. If I pause to look something up, that’s not counted. If I rewind to try to catch something I missed, that’s not counted. and there’s quite a bit of both pausing and rewinding involved in a lot of this, although it varies based on how much I’m trying to look up while watching. For games, best I can do is comparing start/end play time on the save file, but I try to be pretty focused while playing to keep that relatively accurate.

- ヤ〇ザの事務所に営業かけてしまった女上司 - 0:10 - started off my day today with an actual translation request from a friend, and so watched this short zundamon meme video a few times to actually translate it, which is about as intensive as you can get in terms of listening, especially for my extensive listening challenge
- 【リズムゲー】たんたんすたたんたーんたーんたたたんたたんた【ホロライブ/大神ミオ 】 -1:05 - mio is traveling for a few weeks and cant do normal streams, so she’s been sharing old vods on twitter, including this series of her playing adofai. It is a lot of タンタンタンタンタンタタタンタンタタタタンタン I know part of the appeal is supposed to be watching people who are bad at things is kinda cute, but she’s so bad at this game to where it’s almost painful to witness. But it’s like watching a car crash, I can’t look away
- ARIA The NATURAL (2:18 → 3:08) - 0:50 - a bit less audio in this section than I would’ve liked, but still counting it!
- Pokemon Concierge ep 2-4 (jp subs) - 0:45 - I watched the first ep a while ago, but kinda forgot to finish it. No longer! Really really really really cute, i love this
- ぼっち・ざ・ろっく ep 1 (jp subs) - 0:20
- ありのままの夫婦の休日を１日撮ってみた。 - 0:20 - getting at least a lil “real people talk” in today. haven’t watched とったび in a while, but their videos are always so fun. Lil cute travel and food vlogs. They almost went to a restaurant that was featured in ゆるキャン△ today, but ended up going somewhere else instead
- 一瞬の文字情報で漫画をこたえよ！ - 0:15 - this channel is generally too hard for me, but this video looked interesting. words were way too fast for me to read without pausing and frame advancing, but I guessed a few right from that
- ３人で沖縄で色んな体験してきたぞおおお🌺 - 1:15 - another stream to end off the day, this time with subaru and miko, talking about their trip to okinawa so far. Of all the stuff I watched today, I understood this the least
Something about their voices/speech styles, i could only really follow when mio was talking. But, i’ve also watched by far the most mio out of these 3, so that’s probably expected.

Chisato and Takina are cute. Especially the part where Chisato is cheering her up. “When you lose something, you gain something else. We wouldn’t have met if that thing didn’t happen, desho?”
Today I watched this vid about a samurai festival in Kōfu:
I could mostly understand everything she said, but I really didn’t catch a word from any of the guys on the street handing out fliers and whatnot. Way too mumble-mumble.
Looks like a fun festival, especially the dressing up as a samurai part!

I watched another episode of はじめてのおつかい - season 2 episode 2 on Netflix without subtitles. I felt so bad for 渓介くん who had to do all the work for 有希ちゃん. And then she only helped him out at the very very end after little 渓介くん had two breakdowns already!

元気モリモリみせて
This is translated in the show as “show me how strong you are” said by Yukiko when Keisuke asks for help. When I looked up モリモリ on its own, I went down a rabbit hole of Japanese onomatopoeia (ぎおんご | 擬音 語). I had known there were a lot but didn’t know there were even names for different types. My mind was swimming… But anyway, the definition I found for モリモリ was this:
1.(eating) heartily
2. energetically, vigorously, (working) hard, enthusiastically
3. bulging (muscles), welling up (of strength, courage, etc.)

A strong start yesterday, but I want to keep up the momentum. I know there’s some days this month where it’s gonna be hard to listen much, so trying to build up a buffer if I need to take a few days (mostly) off
Listened:
- ゼルダの伝説 風のタクトHD［RTAinGunma24-ISOBE］- 3:00 - wind waker is one of my favorite games to watch, so I couldn’t turn down a wind waker all dungeons (no mss) run. The runner talks pretty fast, but he kept reusing a lot of the vocab during the run, so as it went on it got much easier to follow.
- 【LEGO】無駄にバイノーラルマイクでLEGO組み立てガチ作業【ホロライブ/大神ミオ】 - 1:15 - the second part of the mio lego building stream. I watched the first part last month, but was saving this one for a nice chunk of lower effort listening.
- ARIA the NATURAL (3:08 → 3:54) - 0:45 - I thought I might’ve hit the route split today, but my save file still shows 通常ルート, so I guess not. Finished the second chapter though! I think there’s 6, but idr exactly.
- Melatonin あそぶ。【天瀬くう】 - 1:00 - as I was getting ready to get off for the day, youtube decided to give me a new to me indie vtuber playing one of the coziest indie rhythm games of all time, couldn’t turn that down! it looks like she streams some variety games that align with my interests, her voice isn’t too hard for me to listen to, and the vibes are pretty good, so ez 登録. She’s also not very good at rhythm games, but she at least has the excuse of playing on a controller

Like I mentioned on the reading every day challenge, today’s practice mostly came in the form of Persona 3 Reload, which I played about 3.5 hours of and caught up to where I was in Persona 3 Portable, but this time in full Japanese, not just Japanese audio.

I’ve seen so many of you guys mention Comprehensible Japanese so I had to check it out ^–^ I watched the video on 福岡の名物, apprehensive at first because of the speed but she spoke very clearly and I could understand nearly everything she said (I had never heard the word for もつ before!)
And then the recommended videos afterward took me to a Naoko video about summer activities. I’ve scrolled by her videos in the past but this was the first time I watched one - she speaks relatively slowly and re-words her sentences often for extra understanding, so if you’re looking for beginner listening videos I think she’d be great. I learned that the onomatopoeia for cicada sounds is ミンミンミーン (≧▽≦)
