📚💡 Biabolos Study Log

Hi there. I’m sure nobody really cares about a newcomer named Biabolos, but I thought I’d still post in here even though. I’m new here, have no background in Japanese outside of a couple cartoons I used to watch as a kid (not anime) so safe to say I’ll be learning Japanese from scratch, documenting as I go along!

Languages I speak
:england: English (Native)
:japan: Japanese (day 1)

Materials & Resources
:books: Genki I
wow! Genki arrived yesterday and I already understand the appeal. I’ve read the first two chapters twice, back to front!

:laptop: WaniKani
Level 1, reviews done this morning

:bell: Passive listening immersion
Been doing this for a few weeks already actually (so I guess this isn’t really day 1 haha), before I even formally decided to start. Just having japanese on in the background while doing other things. Not sure why I started doing this before everything else but here we are

What I’m focusing on first:
the door.
Listening comprehension above everything else :headphone:. I can already hear the rhythm of the language but I can’t make out where one word ends and another begins yet in natural speech. That’s the wall I need to get through most urgently. Reading and writing matter and I’ll get there but they’re not what I need right now.

Why Japanese:
̸̧͈͐̓̿̽̂̕ I will say I have a reason, it is specific, and it has a date attached to it. I’ve been putting this off for longer than I should have and I’m done doing that :spiral_calendar:

Goals:
:bullseye: Get through Genki I before March 27th
:bullseye: Clear WaniKani level 10 before March ̸̧͈͐̓̿̽̂̕27th
:bullseye: Understand what is being said to me before March 27th

Will update this log as I progress. Looking forward to being part of this community  :raising_hands:

March 27th

As you don’t give the reason for why you’re Japanese I have to assume that you stumbled across a crime scene a few years ago. The perpetrators were still there, the Yakuza. Why was a Japanese criminal gang outside of Japan? It’s nothing you know but what you do know is the the princess of the Yakuza was there. The only reason you know that is because she gave you a proposition. Compete in their tournament in 2028. Win and you get to live. Loose… and well losers don’t tend to make it out of the rings. Unfortunately you don’t know your way around a fight and the amount of time you’ve been given won’t change that. You however see another way out. Seduce the yakuza princess and charm your way out of the tournament altogether.

I wish you luck
