Yeah, I’m with you here. I can think of good reasons to both ignore the noise and investigate, so for the moment I’ve voted to investigate and hope there’s not a leopard about to attack us. People are welcome to convince me otherwise, though.
I guess it makes sense the kid is panicking; he’s in a pretty stressful situation, after all. Does make it a bit dramatic for the readers safe at home though, haha.
Ooh! I’m here!
I’m awake!
I have the book on my hands!

Welcome to Stage P of 太平洋を泳ぎぬけ - Escape from the Pacific Ocean!
finally - we got some fish and grill it to go with our vitamin c rich seaweed. oh wait - it was all for nothing because we figure out these bigger fish might eat the smaller poisonous fish! we should not poison ourselves
First we wander around the beach and gather all party members, then we decide to distract ourselves looking around the island. Maybe there’s a shelter or something. Let’s go!
We wander around using a stick to scare away the snakes, and then we all stop. There’s a sound
…
…
We try to yell something but we’re nervous and it just comes out sounding like a whimper. Despite that, we decide to look

I’m joining live, reading along - see you at the decision point!
What if this just happens to be a boat blown off course and no one else ever comes this way? Saving the flare for a better time doesn’t make sense unless you know other ships are coming. Use the flare!
This was absolutely my first thought. I think I’ve caught protagonist’s anxiety
Is this kid crazy? “I’ll just wait for the next boat”? Vitamin deficiency has apparently already set in or something. Use the flare, child, you’ve already used up your lottery luck having one boat sail by.
Sorry everyone! I’m struggling to put everything back together after I got bowled over by a big professional exam. I keep thinking I’ll get to reading the stage and posting the next one but I haven’t managed. I’ll definitely manage tomorrow evening and then we’ll be back to the usual weekly schedule!
Welcome to Stage Q of 太平洋を泳ぎぬけ - Escape from the Pacific Ocean!
we have a look around, what is that strange sound?? And then we see hundreds of hairy bats staring at us. We decide they are cute and leave them alone, backing away slowly
Continuing up the mountain we find ourselves at the top there’s a crater! This is a volcanic island and we get a commanding view of the whole island and the gorgeous turquoise sea around it
…
…
Feels like holiday, there’s even a boat out.
Wait! Boat! We … wait? Waaaaaaa we run down the mountain to camp hoping to send a signal. Are we in time? Let’s try to send a smoke signal!

decision

did you build a tree house
Congratulations. You won!
Here is your trophy!

We had to overcome vitamin deficiency scares, storms, and survived curious turtle incidents.
Thanks so much everyone for joining, it was great fun to adventure with you all!!!
please wait until all active party members have clicked on the decision poll (or the stage deadline passes in a week) to openly discuss outside of spoilers that WE WON!!!
Have a look from scene 108 for more survival lore at the end of the book
I nearly had a heart attack when our boy lit up both flares. Luck was on our side, it seems; great job everyone! I’ve had so much fun reading with you all; these choose-your-own-adventure books are great.
Out of curiosity, why are 104 and 108 in the poll specifically @mitrac? Were they random picks?
Did other books on the series see the party escape successfully the first time? Or is it more common for a bad end first?
if we do the next book, I probably won’t do this again, it takes so long to input all the sentences, parse, link to the dictionaries (if I knew if it was getting used but seems like it’s kind of a waste of time) … but hopefully one person down the road will be able to benefit from it… 581 words and 219 sentences (it’s not everything but a large enough chunk to study) - of course any alternate paths aren’t here in this list but if someone follows the club path this should work
feel like we kind of glossed over the treehouse building though
