Time for a short, but fun, filler arc.

Yay! I missed this!

腕相撲 is a funny word.

I don’t understand what’s going on on the very last page (45). Where are they going? I don’t understand the transition from what happens in the previous page.

Page 45 is the first page of the next chapter. Aside from the lack of transition, did the sudden switch to colour not tip you off? :stuck_out_tongue:

Very muted colors in my edition.

It’s the cat. Been stealing all the colours. Everyone knows black things absorb light.

But in any case, it’s still got that greyscale-ish feel that colour pages rendered in black and white have. Plus, the fact that Ed’s confused at the lack of confusion should also be a clue. And the fact that the contents page says the next chapter starts on page 45. :stuck_out_tongue:

Unrelated note, where’d you get the origami bookmark? I’ve got one in my current goshuincho that I received from Chichibu Shrine, but I don’t use it for day-to-day reading. :slightly_smiling_face:

Did it myself with leftover paper from last month’s advent calendar.

The absolute gall of Winry prying open Ed’s watch when he fused it shut for a reason.

I wonder how the 馬・生まれる joke got translated.

第18話

Fairly dense chapter text-wise but not too difficult to read, except for Dominique’s particularly rough and casual speech that gave me some trouble.

So Dominique abducted a young, homeless girl and had an incredibly painful surgery inflicted on her, seemingly without her consent? That’s a bit messed up but I guess it worked out in the end.

It didn’t, really.

“Th… The…”
“The what?”
“The baby’s coming…”

Actually, another weird thing about the Viz translation is that in both this chapter and the last, the 280 days of pregnancy mentioned is reduced to just 200. That’s only 28 weeks and 4 days…

I noticed this too!
When I read it in english years ago I noticed that it was weirdly short - so rereading it now in japanese and seeing the original number was right surprised me!
I wonder why they changed it

I actually misread it as 200 days at first in the Japanese version as well  and then I went “hey, wait a second…”. Maybe the translator also had bad eyesight (and didn’t go “hey, wait a second…”)

I’m going to run out of physical volumes soon and I’m trying to convince myself that I should just continue with bookwalker but I’ve also seen how bad the scans look and it’s hard to give up those crisp lines…

By now I have completely forgotten why they came to Rush Valley in the first place. I don’t think we were given any explanation besides “to become stronger”, right?
