Ishwar was a testing ground? What’s gonna happen soon in this country?
How much more volumes till we’ll see a full picture? Please don’t tell me “15 more”
So many different things happening in this chapter that I almost thought I’d read two chapters by accident.
For a while I was thinking it was rather a coincidence that Envy happened to turn up at Marco’s house wearing Breda’s form, but it ocurred to me that they probably rode the same train down, like with Lust the first time we met him.
I mean, I’d argue that part of the ‘fun’ of FMA is that you slowly learn about the full picture and unlock new pieces of it together with the characters themselves - I honestly don’t remember whatsoever how long it took to have a more solid idea of what was going on
Yeah, sometimes I wonder if I missed the new chapter mark but then I just remember some of them tend to be long. It’s nice to have different things going on, though. I always appreciate the little exchange between Roy and Dr. Knox.
Hadn’t thought about it, but it’s a nice theory. I do like the aspect of having the villain always a step ahead; it would be boring otherwise
I guess I don’t really know the metaphysical rules behind soul transferrence, but surely if Al’s soul is gonna come flying loose from the armour, it’d happen either immediately or not at all. When’s Al suddenly become the academic expert on the subject?
I like how we dive into Ed’s theory of why he can bring Al back to his body (I was cracking my brain for this one in the previous weeks but couldn’t really get there). The closing for Izumi and her baby is also a very beautiful part, brought a tear to my eyes - in particular the parallel of how both her and Al/Ed always feared they had killed the baby/their mom again by performing the forbidden alchemy.
Some more complicated metaphysical discussion in this one.
Though I did wonder while reading this chapter if Al’s sudden expertise regarding his soul is derived from the way Barry’s body was rejecting whatever soul was put into it. Though I feel that would only reflect on the ability of bodies to hold other souls, and not inanimate objects.
Yep, I struggled with the explanation and I don’t understand why Ed had paid two times: with his foot and then the arm, but Al is gone as a whole from the start
Ed’s leg was taken as the toll for bringing their mother back; he paid his arm to get Al’s soul back. Two operations, two tolls. Al only paid a toll for the first of those because he was only an active participant in the first of those - presumably it’s a body for a body type thing, but the body of a child is insufficient to balance the body of an adult, so Ed had to pay the remainder.
I’m still reading this week’s chapter, but do you guys mind if we take a 1 week break before volume 12? I need a little breather to juggle all my bookclubs effectively
