I have only read the first volume of this manga, but in my experience even slice-of-life manga tend to have some kind of final drama / plot / story-line for the ending, so it might refer to something of that sort…

No, but (a) we’re almost a third of the way, and (b) it took 'em a hair over eight years to write the thing, so we’re slightly ahead of the curve at this point.
