This is a pattern: xと思ったら, y. Which means: just when I thought x, then y (rest of sentence). And it has a feeling that x almost but not quite happened.
So for this sentence: just when I thought I died (but maybe I didn’t?), I became a child! Perhaps… or is this heaven.
