In Bose, for the side quests that aren’t monster quests, talk to the person who has given the quest to start it.

Side Quests and Missable Content

On the airship, the party members you had for the boss fight will tell you their dreams if you talk to them a second time.

There are three new side quests this week, on top of the three for the main plot, for a total of 6 “side” quests.

  • クローネ峠の手配魔獣
  • 霧降り峡谷の手配魔獣
  • 琥珀の塔の手配魔獣
  • 帝国大使の依頼 if it makes you feel any better, this is the last one
  • 消えたお嬢様
  • 珍味の調達 Do not hand this in immediately even if you have the stuff.

珍味の調達 has a secret extra thing. Find and talk to オーヴィッド after accepting the quest and before handing the ingredients in. If you completed his earlier quest, then he’ll open his shop.

It seems there’s someone in the market who has an item for anyone with FC clear data of having completed his quest.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

  2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

  3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

  4. What did you think of Schera’s airship scene?

  5. Are you looking forward to meeting Agate’s sister?

  6. Who’s excited for more side quests?

Haven’t done a pacing check in a while, how are we feeling?

  • Faster
  • No change

I’m fine with the current pace myself (except for this week where I got sidetracked by finishing the FF2 club). It’s comfy and I’m not in a huge hurry to finish.

Bad time to ask cause I’ve been feeling like I’m on the verge of death for about a week, but I’m finally trying to catch back up. I think this pace is ok though.

Sorry I’m a little unclear – are we triggering the beginning of the side quests by talking to people but cutting off the week there before actually doing them? Actually yeah pretty sure I see that’s it now that I’m there.

Done with the week, probably

Well, very little to go on here. I’ll be quick since I’ve been unwell. Bose is pretty nostalgic to revisit now.

Schera’s background stands out to me more than most people so her side is interesting enough. I remember assuming Agate’s sister was dead and I can’t remember every detail but it definitely seemed like SOMETHING was up if not that. I wonder, but it does seem like Estelle is failing to read the room while he acts cagey.

Before SC the devs seem to have increasingly fallen in love with patterning things, unfortunately. Like it’s not the worst problem in the world but if you structure things in a repeating pattern it makes them feel less novel. Every chapter has broadly been following the same structure but also most side quests are like: here’s the thief one, here’s the collect the ingredients one, etc.

I also don’t really understand the endpoint of this week… Hopefully it’ll make sense when I get there.

So we do the monster quests and we start the other quests but then stop as soon as we talk to the quest giver?

not, don’t do the monster quests yet, one of the sides will run out of time

Oops I finished a side quest already, thinking the main week felt too short for some reason. Just the one, though! Saving the notes for next thread.

Week 26

On the airship conversations, I enjoyed Schera’s scene and her opening up about the unhappier parts of her past. Olivier wouldn’t tell me what his dream was about! The ヤキモチ Estelle brings up with Agate and Tita weirded me out a bit. Maybe I would think it was totally innocent if the writers hadn’t already shifted one family coded relationship into a romantic one, but I don’t trust them now.

Same, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to “meet” her by visiting that memorial in the village. It’s odd that he’s offering to introduce her like that without letting anybody know that she’s not actually alive first, but I’m chalking that up to the rule of drama.

Aside from that, I went around speaking to a bunch of the NPCs in town. Seeing the researcher at the bar reminded me that he’d talked about looking for dragons way way back in FC. It stood out at the time because it was randomly long and even included some back-and-forth with Estelle. Talk about long term foreshadowing!

I hope you feel better soon, @Daisoujou! Hang in there :frowning:

Estelle being completely clueless about Agathe’s sister status is almost cringeworthy. He seems to take it well though.

I have zero memory of the people involved in the restaurant quest.
