Minor content warning: person crushed under rubble

details of content warning (contains spoilers)

A building is damaged and a person inside gets crushed under the rubble. The person is quickly rescued, and is alive thought this is not clear until after the rescue.

This week’s stopping point is after reporting in all quests.

Side Quests and Missable Content

First three are main quest but listed like side quests in your 手帳.

  • クローネ峠の手配魔獣
  • 霧降り峡谷の手配魔獣
  • 琥珀の塔の手配魔獣
  • 帝国大使の依頼 if it makes you feel any better, this is the last one
  • 消えたお嬢様 - expires soon
  • 珍味の調達 Do not hand this in immediately even if you have the stuff.

珍味の調達 has a secret extra thing. Find and talk to オーヴィッド after accepting the quest and before handing the ingredients in. Location: next to the market’s south exit, on the outside If you completed his earlier quest, then he’ll open his shop.

消えたお嬢様 will expire after you finish the monster quests. But specifically when you report them, so you have a little leeway if needed.

There is also a hidden book available at the クローネ峠 if you talk to 兵士マイキー. Same expirery.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

  2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

  3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

  4. Which monster design was your favourite?

  5. Opinions on the 消えたお嬢様 quest?

  6. What did you think of the scene with the dragon?

I’m just starting off while I had a few minutes to kill before heading to bed, and I got this from one fight so it’s not big deal, but I just found it funny I was missing literally one single bird egg stopping me from already having the ingredients ready. (Also thank you for the easy list reference )

I played around with orbments again finally and I’ve got a couple like 200 EP cost full field nukes so those seem pretty great right now.

Bose is the place I remember the least and I had forgotten how enormous it is. I do remember this foggy place was like the moment I felt despair about how mean this game gets on the first playthrough, so it’s nice that I’m way more ready to handle it now, heh.

手配魔獣

A little too much running around Bose for my tastes but nothing super notable otherwise. I like that they have the monsters behaving weirdly in fights, that’s some harmony in storytelling and gameplay.

帝国大使の依頼

Honestly despite my recent complaints I did like that these hints were mostly more sane. I solved several, though I didn’t remember the name of the orbment place so that would’ve taken a bit. The letter shifting type puzzles and backwards reading were more fun. The shipping box one was kind of ridiculous though. And the ceremony getting the medal and everyone applauding was pretty funny.

消えたお嬢様

It doesn’t help that I can’t remember most characters super well that we already know, but I feel kind of bad about doing this one maybe? Poor girl, anyway, seems like a shitty situation she’s in.

珍味の調達

I like that a guy can help you with part of this as a reward for doing his quest earlier, but other than that little wrinkle, this sure… is a quest in the game! It happened! I remember right now but don’t ask me in a few days.

The end

Well, we were more than warned with the recent dragon scene and knowing the monsters are behaving weirdly, but it’s still more than I expected the game to suddenly pull to walk out to the market getting destroyed. Didn’t Agate run out alone after this guy in FC, too? He specifically does it with him, so it feels very likely they have a connection from the past the way that the others do.

One thing to note about the missable content this week, specifically the hidden book. If you plan to go to クローネ just once, talk to the soldier for the book first before talking to the girl for the お嬢様 quest. Finishing the quest first got me teleported back to Boze and I had to run all the way back again to get the book

Week 27

A lot of running around and fighting this week. At the start I’d used almost all my sepith on unlocking character slots and new quartz. Now at the end, I have 1000+ of almost every type! Maybe worth mentioning: the big green/silver jellyfish monsters along the east & south paths from Boze drop HP4.

消えたお嬢様 was sort of interesting. I vaguely remember these 2 from last game and it’s nice that it seems like they’re finally working towards talking honestly and working out their issues. I could see more quests with them in the future happening if the game wants to give us a more clear resolution.

I gave deciphering the 帝国大使の依頼 quests clues a try but I gotta admit, my main tactic for these hunts is to latch on to the words obviously meant to be visual clues and then scanning town for things that might match up. So, flowers, open books, and then long containers.

When trying to actually solve the puzzles, give me a solid 1/4 :’) At least the last one was so obvious even I got it right away. In particular いよがるべらしを花の裏 threw me because the solution probably would have been very obvious to a native, or at least more advanced, reader but all I was thinking was: “this must be using rare grammar/vocab that I’m not used to seeing!” At one point I resorted to plugging いよがるべらし into deepL and got some, ahem, saucy translations that were definitely wrong in context.

The applause during the sudden award ceremony at the end also got a laugh out of me!

The dragon bit was really cool and unexpected. After 1 and 1/2 games you get so used to these towns not changing, and now suddenly the market’s gone. レーヴェ (Levie?) out here winning against Joshua big time in the edgy-anime-guy competition, too.

One thing I found funny in the aftermath of the attack is the npc lady who’s always waffling over what to buy for dinner in the market. She’s hanging around outside and finally says welp, bread and soup it is. Her suffering has ended.

I hope she doesn’t make Nanao’s soup.

Thank you for posting this and making my day. Good grief the acting, the script :joy: :joy: I guess Nanao’s suffering also ends, in a different way.

Robot Alchemic Drive is a treasure trove of many more clips like this, highly recommend looking into it. I’ve been really meaning to actually play it one of these days; I’ve just seen a bunch of the voice acting haha.

I did too, I got Olivier the top 闇 spell. It’s only 90EP though, maybe I should have gone for something else? I remember Joshua’s dark magic being OP in FC.

I noticed that many of the new high level spells have a summon-like animation to them:

There’s a summon here in the middle of all the blur.

I completely forgor about the dragon, so I had no idea what was coming. When it appeared atop the market I thought “ooh, right, that thing!”. That seems like much higher stakes than anything we’ve seen so far, maybe with the exclusion of the earthquakes. Dragons also feel a bit out of place in this universe IMO.

Same. I like that the dialogue even comments that the crate one is a stretch. OH REALLY?!

Yeah I have no idea what’s going on here, and the dialogue takes forever…

Ironically I already had all the “rare” ingredients in my inventory, but I had to go hunt for more eggs.

Dammit I forgot the book. Looks like I’ll have to reload a save next week.

I don’t remember this line in my version, I had R I C U L or something like that (in rōmaji) which is the name of the shop backwards.

Very likely I’m either using something added in this version or they changed the EP costs honestly.

I think both parts should be there, at least that’s how my clue was.

Ok I forgot that part then. Admittedly I immediately loaded up a guide…

I do see some fire spells that reach 180EP so I thought you may have been referencing that.
