What does host even mean?
Er… lead the discussion? Be the “leader”? Perhaps decide on the time or format or something? I don’t know. The person in charge.
… XD
… I’m used to online book clubs having hosts… (video chat direct to YouTube)…
And uh… I think hinekidori was host on his mumble server for the Yotsuba stuff…
Speaking of… @hinekidori … if you still wanted to hear me try to read Haruhi… you may get your chance soon.
For Kino we just took turns reading.
Well, hine-先輩 decided the order, or something, I think… and he or someone else helped out with pronunciation and grammar/translation. It was more than just reading. Paused for questions to understand… and stuff.
Isn’t taking turns to read the idea of reading aloud sessions?
That, or I had a huge misunderstanding about it all the time
Well yeah, I think that’s the main point.
… But people wind up actually discussing the book too, don’t they? And random conversations break in? So someone can nudge people back on track…
Yep, that’s the idea.
Yeah, we do all that. We always got back on topic eventually…
I would just like to say to everyone that picked doing it if they have Time, that I wholeheartedly plan to be there. So fret not your gentle souls.
I totally enjoyed the reading groups, but as before life will sometimes get in the way of me showing up. ._.
My attendance depends on what time the voice chat is held. I’m in Japan so if the time only works for America, I can’t do it until I return to the states in August.
I just assumed we were going to do the same two times as before? If I remember the Japan time session starts at 9:30 on Sunday. I have no idea when the US time one started.
Depends on how many people want to join both Haruhi and Konbini, if there’s no overlap I guess it would be no problem to have them at the same time.
Being able to participate in the read aloud thing is a big maybe at this point. The times before weren’t doable due to my schedule so we’ll see.
I’m just glad that the intermediate group is solidifying with regular participants.
Would morning work for you? Or Evening?
That way it could be evening (or morning - which I’d rather not do too early) on the East Coast here. (EST/EDT) If you’re in Japan you’re either 12 or 13 hours apart from us right now (and 13-14 apart when it’s not Daylight Savings Time).
TO EVERYONE: Does it need to be the same time each week? Or can we schedule it differently as the weeks go on to accommodate the most people (and their lives)?
As long as it’s a weekend or an evening, anytime is fine for me. Sundays are less likely to have conflicts.

I propose a possible solution. We just pick two scheduled reading meets and then anyone who can’t make it, or just feels like it, can read later/earlier whenever. That way we can involve more people.
The “anyone” crowd was kind of what I was getting at with the “not the same time each week”.
That’s a bit of a relief to hear honestly. Thanks for helping to chime in.
Personally I find it easier to make time with a fixed schedule. If I’m interested enough in attending the sessions, I’ll schedule other stuff that comes up during the week an hour later or earlier. That is, as long as it’s not work or something.
Depending on how much change there is in people’s schedule deciding on a time anew every week (and I think there likely will be more if there’s no fixed schedule people can use as a fix point) also holds the danger of becoming a bit of a time… sink/waste of time? It’s impossible to find a time that works for everyone, anyway, imo, no matter how much you discuss.
If people want to do that, though.
You’re welcome. ^^
Glad to help.
