曇り vs. 曇っています

I’m interested to know what exactly is the difference between these two statements:

今日は曇りです。
今日は曇っています。

(Trying to say it’s cloudy today.)

Any help will be appreciated! よろしくお願いします!

曇り Translated is “cloudy weather”
曇っている translated is “It is cloudy”

So they are pretty much the same.

I think the meaning is effectively the same.
曇り is a noun meaning cloudy weather.
曇っています is progressive tense for 曇る meaning something (today) is currently in the state of being cloudy.
