EN summary

As the only daughter of the Kingdom of Gohwa, Yona was carefully raised by her kind father, the king, and her childhood friend and guard, Hak. On Yona’s 16th birthday, she receives a hairpin from her cousin Suwon, whom she has been in love with, and goes to her father to express her feelings. However, she meets an unexpectedly harsh fate!

Second volume is a bit harder than the first one both in terms of density and characters, but if you’ve survived volume 1, the difficulty shooould be comparable.

Hint! If you’re having difficulties reading at difficulty levels as high as this one, the best way to make your life easier is by scraping your manga with a script, such as this for Bookwalker, and then running manga through a script such as Mokuro in order to enable lookups of the more specific terminology.

I’m really exhausted today, but at least I started with the first chapter - I still intend on reading all five volumes before the deadline, if I manage to do so ^^

Just finished volume 2. The second to last chapter with her getting confident is really making me wonder where this is heading. I assume book 3 will start revealing where the greater plot is heading. This manga feels so slow having just read the extremely brisk paced Magic Knight Rayearth manga lol. I dunno if I’ll read volume 3 by the deadline since I’m going on a trip tomorrow. So far this series is okay.

Funny, I’d have written the opposite if I’d read them in close proximity… MRE was a real struggle for me with the pacing. Admittedly it does have a short plot, which stopped me from giving up, but I was really close.

So far it’s ok, three volumes to go!

General impressions is that the artist knows how to express very strong emotions with just eyes alone and I really appreciate that, even though the characters are going through a lifetime of different traumas in just a few chapters, I know Kelsyy called it “so slow” but the pacing in it feels like “YOU LITERALLY HAVENT RECOVERED FROM THE PREVIOUS SCENE AND YOU’RE GETTING MENTALLY BEATEN UP AGAIN???” xdd

Chapters 6-8 were rough, but 9-11 felt much easier to read imo ^^

I hope you continue past vol 5. Can’t promise you’ll like him, but there’s a lot that’s shown much later, and you’ll get to see him in a variety of situations that will influence your perception of him in various ways

I really liked this volume! Don’t have chapter per chapter notes, but I really liked when Yona threw herself into the fight and cut off her hair and everything. I think she’s pretty awesome. I don’t think I’m gonna be able to read much more before the volumes get taken away, but it was nice to read two volumes of something in relatively short timeframe. (actually I checked and it’s at the end of tomorrow, so I might try to get vol 3 read too)

Also, I like how the mangaka draws and panels everything. It really feels like they know what they’re doing and like, I already trust the story to not let me down, if that makes sense.

actually one more thing (with ch11 spoilers)

I was very intrigued by the box on Haku’s hand as he’s all banaged up. If any of those injuries are more permanent than the typical shounen stuff I’m used to, I think that’d be great. And I saw next chapter cover. I just. Like consequences to things.

Also it was neat that Yun introduced himself as 美少年, because like, he knows who he is and tells people so they can think of him that way. If that makes sense?
