I own up to volume 7 of やがて君になる, but haven’t read it (or finished the anime) yet because I like it so much and I have this psychological thing where if I like something too much, I make myself wait until I’m “ready”
Which turns out to be never usually
Whoooooops
Same reason you haven’t finished 放浪息子 yet?
I didn’t realize there was an anime too! I’ll have to check that out. I had just seen that it was highly rated and it sounded interesting, so I decided to get it (plus half off, you know). I have a book buying problem.
I kind of understand what you mean about putting off something you like. It sucks when it is over!
No that’s because it hurts >_>
Actually it’s because I caught up when it was still being made, and after I catch up with stuff I sometimes don’t keep going!
The anime is fantastically directed in some scenes, imo. In particular the scene at the canal with the stones… so nicely done. Worth a look.
Just started volume 7. I didn’t really understand this speech from the principal (I assume) if someone can explain it. I only got bits and pieces, like he mentioned being startled by the guys wearing dresses and long hair. But other than that, I didn’t get much.
Also, to comment on the chapter itself, poor Mako.
Quick and dirty since I need to go to bed

Volume 7, pages 5-6
えー
今年はまたずいぶんと奇抜な催しがとりおこなわれたためか
Ehhh
This year we again held quite an eccentric event
(technically ためか means something like せいで, but I’m not sure of a good way to put it in English here)
ドレスやロングヘアーを身につけた男子生徒の姿には正直たまげました
I was astonished by the male students wearing dresses and long hair
いや しかし
Well, however
生徒ひとりひとりが自主性を持って積極的に取り組んだと聞き心強くも思っております
I think it is reassuring, hearing that the students were independent and tackled everything enthusiastically.
そのやる気を今後は仮装ではなく学生の本分である勉強に向けられることを願ってやみませんが
I won’t stop hoping that from now on, it’s not costumes, but a student’s duty to study that their drive is directed towards
何はともあれみなさんお疲れ様でした
At any rate, good job everyone
Yay, I’ve been waiting for chapter 53 for so long!
Chapter 53 spoilers
Shuu x Anna is one of the things I remember most from the anime. I’ve been looking forward to it for a while! Keeping in line with the writing style of the series, it was brought up completely out of nowhere and non-sequentially, but I think it was done pretty well.
Finished volume 7. Thanks @catbus for pushing me to keep reading!
Congrats on finishing volume 7! Volume 8 was one of my favorites so far. I hope you enjoy it soon too!
With Kino finishing this week I should have plenty of time!
Random comments on stuff from volume 3
Summary
- that random mean guy that came out of nowhere in chapter 19…
- what’s up with asking someone if they have to go to the hospital after allegedly being very slightly sick for one day, like, is that really something that seems necessary that quickly?
- though I guess the… mom? realized something else was up pretty quickly
- yep, it’s the mom, because she’s called that on the next page… I really suck at remembering who characters are
- that one other random mean guy is also pretty annoying
- Even if what’s happening isn’t great, I really like that panel on the bottom left of page 71(like, the way it’s drawn)
- why do those guys have to be so mean… I mean, it’s realistic, but still
- I like Chiba’s character quite a bit so far. Like she somewhat said, being ignored really sucks - in this case probably way more than the alternative. Especially with how they didn’t even explain why or anything first.
- that guy with glasses is cool
- the sister is a bit too pushy
- Oh, nice, we just hadn’t heard the name of the glasses guy yet. I didn’t just forget it!
- there’s just something I like about the bottom middle panel of page 106 too
- the glasses person became more important than I thought they would… and is not always quite as cool as the first few pages they appeared in, but they also are sometimes
- Nitorin is a cute nickname
- A word I know I learned from Aria… maybe I should catch up on that too now that I have time for it
- Yuki is quite a bit nicer than I thought she would be the first time she appeared
- …but also a bit creepy
- I also can’t help but notice that Takatsuki’s bottom half stopped being shown in the panels after a certain point. I don’t know if that’s just coincidental or it’s intentional symbolism, but cool if it is
- the top panel of page 148 looks like something from an action manga
- …and so does the top panel on page 150, except it’s not nearly as cool
- it seems to be blowing to the left on page 157(or right, if you’re facing the other direction)
- the sister is kind of cool sometimes
- why would you punch the teddy bear, of all things
- aaand that was all of volume 3
I knew you were getting here from the likes ![]()
You are actually were I am right now and that summary has just reminded me that I miss reading this manga ;_;
Good news is I’m probably going to finish キノ today so I should be able to get back to reading this soon yaay
Random comments on stuff from volume 4
Summary
- Maiko’s name is mentioned a lot on the first page
- That’s not how I expected Maiko to react
- She knew it was Anna, even
- A surprisingly large amount of the panels displaying strong emotions lately have had Chiba in them. (Well, maybe not that many, but I can remember at least one or two more)
- I really don’t like when people listen in on private stuff(assuming enough effort is put in to actually make it somewhat private in the first place)
- Another cool panel on page 53
- First a chapter with “love” in the title, now one with “romantic”?
- If someone cries all the time, maybe do something more than just say “eh, they do it all the time, it’s fine”?
- Shouldn’t the mom have been able to tell that there wasn’t anyone in the bed when she looked at it? She must have looked that way for, like, less than a second
- The grey furigana on a black background was really hard to read
- huh, there was a survey thing asking what I knew beforehand and thought inside the manga. Not something I’m going to bother with, but interesting.
- The author really likes to draw Chiba’s hair in a lot of different ways
- Chiba holding the umbrella like it was a sword is cool
- That reaction probably means that Anna actually does like Nitori
- Judging by the title of chapter 31, it seems like the love stuff will continue to be important
- And I guess they didn’t manage to reconcile just yet…
- and that’s the end of volume 4!
You sure do make a lot of random notes about the volumes. It’s a shame I can only remember details well enough to place a few of them. ![]()
I actually started writing comments as I was going through precisely because I couldn’t remember stuff well enough to say much about it afterwards!
You should add chapter or page numbers where relevant so I can look them up. ![]()
(If you want to, obviously).
I can’t read that yet but wow that was fast, I can’t do that kind of speed in Japanese yet.
I better get reading or you’ll all leave me in the dust ![]()
If you weren’t busy in a given week, how much do you think you could read?
That’s the advantage of not having anything I need to get up early for the next day ![]()
In other words, I read most of it last night
I don’t really know… maybe a volume or two depending on how difficult I found it?
But I have a reasonable amount of time I can put into reading at the moment (thus finishing キノ) so I guess there’s only one way to find out ![]()
