少し vs 少ない, same meaning but different grammar?

Hey, I’ve come across 少し and 少ない in WaniKani recently and as per many others find it rather confusing because of the similarity in their definitions. I was thinking that maybe they actually share the same meaning and that difference is purely their grammatical function. Is that a possible interpretation or is there some nuance of them that I just haven’t quite grasped, that truly do set them apart?

Yeah, I would say it is fair to say they mean the same thing. But one is an adjective and the other is an adverb.
少ない has the following definition in weblio: ［形］ 数量・程度などが小さい。わずかしかない。
少し hast the following definition: ［副］数量・程度などがわずかであるさま。ちょっと。

So as you can see the main difference is their gramatical function (形容詞、副詞)
