Yeah, I did see that there were some content warnings etc - though I’m usually fine with that sort of thing personally
And yeah, I’d probably be interested in taking a look at other RPG Maker stuff I never got around to since there seems to be quite a few well-respected games like that
As a whole I do want to try playing more games in Japanese in general I think because one of my goals is to play the Japan-exclusive Yakuza games, though those are definitely outside of my league for now (especially given the prevalence of dialect stuff etc, plus the Japan exclusive ones are historicals so there’s an added layer of difficulty there)
So, this feels silly, but can someone give me a brief summary on how to read manga? I understand that the last page is the first page, but is it read left to right, or right to left? In both frame, and line-by-line? I’m having a hard time letting myself get hyped, because I’m just still a little confused about how to do this lol.
Within each bubble, the text is also read top to bottom, right to left.
You’ll get the hang over time of how the panel arrangement changes the specific reading order of panels. For example, a panel that spans across two pages is read in its entirety before the next panel on the right-side page.
Hey! Excited to be a part of the group. I’m loving wanikani so far but I’m trying to collect more study tools and this seems perfect.
So now I need some help I made an account on bookwalker and downloaded the app. I bought the book - money was definitely taken from my paypal - but both the app and the site say I have no books Any ideas?
I have the site translated on chrome but for some reason my emails won’t auto-translate so I’m not sure if I’m missing something super obvious from the email…
I’m not familiar with Bookwalker, so this is just an random suggestion: If you are signed in to the app, are you able to navigate to the store page for the volume, and see what option it has? I imagine the “buy” button may be replaced with a “read” or “download” button. (Just a guess.)
There’s a ton of famous RPG Maker games in Japan! Mostly horror-themed, but with great characters and interesting stories and settings. When I visited Japan for the first time (2013), I was surprised to see official merchandise for games like Aoi Oni and Ib in Animate along with other merch. Even now you can find merch for newer games like Angels of Death!
I’ll take pictures of what I have in my browser and app! As long as you use the login for the account you made to purchase you should have access to the book.
Okay awesome I hope you enjoy the game! I have some friends who’ve had some issues due to games etc, so I always just want to make sure people know what they’re getting into. As @BubblyOasis said there are so many great RPG maker games. I am probably going for Angels of Death and Witches House once my reading level is higher!
Okay so this is what I see when in the web browser. I have it opened in chrome, so it’s auto translated to English.!
If you click on purchased it should take you to your books.(highlighted)
Once you click on purchased it should take you here (a list of your books) where you can click “Read This Book”
IN THE APP! V V
When you open up the app you will want to click on “List” which I have highlighted.
This should take you to a list of your purchased books, you then click “download”
After clicking download this screen will appear select bookshelf 1 and then click “add” and it will download on to your device and be in your bookshelf!
As for the email, mine usually have Japanese early on and then an English translation of the email at the bottom.
Another possible problem if the app is showing you the English version is that you actually bought the English version? The store function in the app only lets you browse Japanese books and has you go to the browser to shop for English books.
I definitely bought the japanese version (the price is even different than the english version). But my “list” is empty and using my stylus translate function on my phone it looks like I never actually got a confirmation of purchase email, but I was still charged.
Frankly it’s cheap enough I’ll just purchase again I think and see how it goes.
I would wait it out for a little bit to see if the purchase confirmation comes later. You also have the option to get your money back via paypal or just emailing them at support@mail.bookwalker.jp
I’m sorry you’re having issues with the site I haven’t had this happen to me before, so I’m not sure how to trouble shoot.
I reached out to the seller I wrote in English and in addition gave the google translate so I pity whoever has to try and decipher what it came up with lmao
I wonder how DeepL handles English to Japanese compared with Google Translate. I normally recommend DeepL over Google Translate for Japanese to English. Something to keep in mind in case Bookwalker decides they can get you to purchase everything twice
Really I used my keyboard’s translate function which I just assumed was google translate. The first sentence seemed fine as far as I could tell but I was too lazy to check the rest
Out of curiosity, is there anything in your “messages” section (the envelope in the corner, at least in the browser).
In my experience, I’ve never actually gotten confirmation e-mails (which did definitely surprise me originally), but after ordering something a confirmation message will show up in that section, like this:
If so, that might help you figure out what happened.
Usually there’s a bit of lag on some of that stuff - on the site I tend to see my coins, cart, and confirmation all take maybe up to an hour to fully update after purchasing something, but the thing shows up in my library immediately and I’ve never seen it let me buy something twice, so it’s worrying that it may have happened to you!
The only other guess I can think of is I don’t really know how accounts or the app work across bookwalker.jp (the Japanese store) and global.bookwalker.jp (the English-language store) so if you made the account or shopped on the latter, maybe some wires got crossed somehow?
I’m guessing it was just a fluke- glitch in the system. Having waited a day (or more) there was nothing, but immediately after the second purchase I had a confirmation email and the book was available on the site and the app.
As far as the english site - I started by using the link in this post, which took me to .jp, where I purchased the book, and I downloaded the app after. Now when I’m in the app and go to “store” everything is in english, so I’ll just be careul to purchase on my account with the .jp browser to make sure I’m getting what I want!
