Why, in English (my native language) do we say: 4 sheets of paper, 3 cups of coffee, 6 packs of cigarettes, 3 spools of thread, 2 bolts of fabric, 10 cans of paint, 3 slices of pizza, and I could go on and on. A “different counter” for different types of things.
