出会い and 出会

What’s the difference between these? After visiting a few online dictionaries I know 出会 (しゅっかい) is less common, but since I’m a beginner, I don’t have multiple usage cases (or any at all) to compare it with 出会い (であい) or the ability to look for answers on Japanese websites. I only found this at all thanks to copy pasting kanji from sentence examples under WK lessons into aforementioned online dictionaries, so any explanation would be appreciated.

According to this definition, they are basically the same:

であうこと。であい。

Generally, words written with kun’yomi (here 出会い) will be used more in conversation and words written in on’yomi (here 出会) will be used more in literary writing. In this case, my IME didn’t even give 出会 as an option for しゅっかい, so it might not really be used much.
