Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

I ended up reading ahead in one sitting so won’t say too much so I don’t accidentally spoil something.

Quick Thoughts

Not quite what I thought would happen, yikes! Here I was wondering just a few readings ago when something big would happen in the story, now every reading seems to add onto it.

On a side note I keep thinking back to what happened at the very beginning of this story all those months ago and what that mystery will end up being. I won’t specify what mystery it was in case one of you forgot what it was and want to be extra surprised at the end haha.

Yes, at the last moment the story turns into a murder mystery!

With all the theorising in this chapter, it was a bit trickier to read and I had to reread some sections to make sure I understood it all.

暦 seems pretty sure at the end that he knows what is going on, but I have to admit that I can’t quite figure it out yet

I’m so looking forward to the shorter weeks that are coming up. End of semester and all, I’m a bit late with this week, but at least I finished. The beginning part of this week was quite difficult for me, probably because I tried to read when I was already exhausted from that day. So I kinda fell asleep with the book in my hand a couple of times.

short thoughts

Good old murder mystery. It’s never a good sign, when the s*** hits the fan at 90% of the book. Curious where the last 10% takes us.

Ha, I somehow managed to catch up again. Not really hot on the sudden plot twist towards the end and our narrator Calendar again spoiling the fun by revealing the secret almost right away :frowning:

I have to say now that we’re towards the end of the book that it does have its good moments, but I wouldn’t honestly call it a good book.

I have pretty well the same thoughts. It has a solid setting, a solid premise, but it’s definitely a bit hindered by the author’s seeming inability to let there be any kind of suspense for more than, like, a page or two.

It’s interesting enough premise-wise (and easy enough), that I’ll likely pick up and read through the other book at some point too, but I’m not in a rush to get there, which is a bit of a shame. There were stretches in the book where I felt that “gotta see what happens” urge, but in the end, I feel like the book is just “okay”.

I’m glad I picked it up later in my learning, because it being not too difficult means that it being okay is perfectly fine, and not as big of a drag as it could have been.

I love how that name stuck

I agree with wishing the author wouldn’t solve everything right away. I suppose part of that is since it’s the story of 暦’s whole life broken up into sections it makes it difficult to carry out any one part for too long, but in that case a different format may have worked better.

While I did enjoy the book, it’s not quite enough to want to pick up the other one.

I’m still surprised this isn’t considered to be a light novel.
