Discussion thread for マスカレード・ゲーム
I had fun with this part this weekend. I know it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I quite like the slow exposition, and focusing on the mechanism of the investigation, rather than piling up victims the way some other mystery novels do.

Seems like I was writing part 3 spoilers in the part 2 thread… all good now, though I’ll probably flip through part 2 again to find something to write about !
I like it too!
Very mysterious that the two suspects didn’t even look at each other in the bar.. And also wow, so much tension between 新田 and 梓. Much different than the duo 新田 / 尚美 I feel like. I’m having a hard time seeing those two becoming friends by the end of the book!
梓 seems not the best at working together; I really don’t like her bossiness, but I guess I understand it. What with her male colleagues experiencing ‘unpleasant feelings’ when confronted with a female police officers efficiency, or being ‘upfronted’ by her saying something smart first.
Definitely expecting some real conflict between them before too long!
I’m also wondering what’s going on. Maybe they’re following the wrong lead here, and the three are working independently as a distraction?
